A/N: Just a little fic from my favoritest part of the movie, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own the wondrous masterpiece that is How to Train Your Dragon.
Matched
Hiccup stared down at his foot- or where it was supposed to be. For in the place of what had been a foot with a sturdy boot on, was a clumsy, metal prosthetic. Hiccup gave a half- helpless, half-scared look to Toothless. Why had this happened to me? Toothless made a keening sound in his throat. Yes, he had been able to save the boy, but it was at a great price.
In that one, terrifying moment of falling, Toothless had save Hiccup from the fiery inferno- but not all of Hiccup.
Toothless suddenly felt very sick.
For as long as he live, he would never be able to forget the sound of bones being crushed and the bitter taste of blood- Hiccup's blood- out of his mind.
It was sickly ironic- Hiccup had robbed Toothless of his flight, and so Toothless had taken away Hiccup's ability to walk. Yes, Hiccup could walk with his prosthetic, and Toothless had proven he could fly without Hiccup, but it would never really be the same.
The boy took in a deep breath, and tried to rise. He immediately stumbled and fell, but was saved by Toothless. And in that instance, Toothless realized something. He would help this boy in the same way Hiccup had helped him. He would be Hiccup's leg, just like how Hiccup had been his tailfin. They would help each other, because they couldn't survive without another.
Hiccup stubbornly set his jaw. He would do this, he could do this! He looked down at the worried green eyes staring at him, then smiled slightly. He would do it with some help.
And so as they walked slowly towards the door- taking small baby steps- Toothless made a vow right then and there. He would protect the boy, because the boy had protected him. He would help the boy- because the boy had helped him. He would save the boy- because the boy had saved him. He would love the boy, because the boy loved him.
Because they were both cripples.
Because they were best friends.
Because they were two peas in a pod.
Because they matched.
