You Weren't There
"How dare you!" Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald seethed, glaring coldly at her parents. She couldn't believe they'd come to the mansion and kidnapped her.
"Theresita, we love you-" Pilar began, only to be cut off.
"Yes, you love me. As long as I do what you think is right, what you want me to do. Right, Mama?"
"Now you know that's not true, Theresa." Martin admonished. "We're your parents. We just want to help you."
"It's a little too late to be playing "daddy" isn't it papa?" Theresa responded, focusing her anger on him.
"I'm trying, Theresa. I want to be there for you."
"You weren't there for me, or any of us children! You weren't there, papa. You missed Luis, Miguel, and I's childhood. You weren't there to see what a stubborn little girl I was, or how my head was always in the clouds. You missed all of the important moments in my life. All of the times I needed you, you weren't there. You weren't there when Ethan and I fell in love and got engaged. I would have given anything to have you walk me down the aisle. You were not there as everything fell apart when Gwen and Rebecca destroyed Ethan and I, making our love seem dirty and wrong. You weren't there when I had my son. A son I named after a man I love and as a tribute to you," a bitter laugh escaped Theresa. "thinking that I hoped he grew up to be just like both his namesakes. You weren't there for me when my heart broke as I was forced to watch the man I love, and I know loves me, get married to a vicious psychopath. All I wanted was for you to hold me, and tell me that things would be okay. That God and fate would work things out the way they were supposed to."
"If I could have been there, I would have. I'm so sorry, Theresa." Martin apologized sadly.
"But you weren't there, and now, it's too late. You made your choice, to leave us to protect someone who should have and could have taken care of herself. And the moment you deserted us, you lost the right to try and act like any kind of father to me. So just stop it. I may have needed you at one point, but I don't need you anymore, and I don't want you either."
