Chapter 1
Piper Halliwell groaned at the sound of her alarm clock but without opening her eyes, she reached over and turned it off. It was still early in the morning but the eldest witch was used to the routine especially as a mother. She took her shower, got dressed, checked on Wyatt, and headed downstairs to the kitchen to make breakfast for everyone as usual. However, she already found a bunch of food already on the table. It became more bizarre to see Chris cleaning the dishes and pots from last night and from the breakfast preparation.
She sat down on the counter and watched him for a couple minutes. Piper took note that the young whitelighter didn't look stress or uncomfortable. He looked like he was…enjoying himself on doing a household chore. "What are you doing?"
Chris turned around, surprised with his gloved, soap hands in the air. But his widen green eyes soften, realizing that it was Piper. How did he not notice her presence? "I'm cleaning the dishes."
"I can see that," Piper smiled. "But why? And why did you make all this food?"
Chris sighed and turned off the water and put away the gloves. "You and your sisters were right about me taking a demon-hunting break."
"So, you decided to do everyone's house chores." Piper said.
"Yeah," Chris smiled embarrassedly. "Is that a problem?"
On cue, Phoebe and Paige walked inside the kitchen, their eyes widen at the sight of the food prepared. The sisters knew that their sister wouldn't make this much food for breakfast unless it was a special occasion. They looked at the calendar hanging on the wall in case they forgot an important date. Piper rolled her eyes at their antics and filled them in on her latest discovery of their whitelighter. Chris returned to his chore but the sisters noticed how red his ears were. It was a cute and new sight for them to see.
"Wow, Chris! This looks delicious." Paige said as she sat down.
"When did you learn how to cook?" Phoebe asked.
Chris finally finished the dishes and cleared his throat. "My mom taught me when I was around ten years old. Since I was always in the kitchen, she thought I should start helping her prepare our meals."
"Is that coffee cake I smell?" Paige asked.
Chris smiled, "You're just now figuring that out?" He poured a cup and handed it to her.
"Give me a break," Paige said, rolling her eyes. "My sense of smell is just waking up. I love coffee cake. It's my favorite!"
"Yeah, I know." Chris smiled as if there was a personal joke in there.
"Oh look! We have new neighbors!" Phoebe yelled, excited as she looked out the window. The sisters followed her eyesight and could see the moving truck and boxes across the lawn.
"First, food and then we can introduce ourselves." Paige said as she took a sip of the coffee and sighed in relief.
Later, the Charmed sisters and their whitelighter walked outside the house and watched as a little boy with dirty blonde hair ran to his new house carrying a small box marked "toys" in bold letters. A few seconds later, he ran outside to get another box. "Slow down, Jamie!" A man laughed, grabbing a larger box from his car. "We still have to unpack."
"He wants to settle down quicker, so he can try out his new room." A woman pitched in.
Chris's green eyes widened at the sight and sound of the couple. The sisters didn't notice him stumble a few paces backwards until he hit the wall. A man in his late twenties walked out, displaying his strong and muscular body carrying the box. Then, his long, dark haired woman walked out of the car displaying the same age as her husband. Chris's fingers curled into a fist at the sight of the couple and watched as the sisters walked down to greet them.
"Hi! Do you guys need any help?" Phoebe asked.
The husband looked up and smiled. "Please and thank you."
"I'm Phoebe and these are my sisters, Piper and Paige."
Husband and wife looked at each other and smiled. "So, we are living next door to the Charmed Ones."
The girls looked at each other, astonished. "Are you witches?" Phoebe asked.
The husband and wife laughed. "Not exactly. I'm Charlie Black and this is my wife, Amanda." He said and grabbed his son before he could run off again. "And this little monster is Jamie."
"And this is our whitelighter – where's Chris?" Piper asked as she looked around until she saw him standing on the porch but in the shadows with a guarded expression on his face. "Chris, come down and don't be rude."
Chris swallowed and nodded his head. He walked down and stopped to greet the new neighbors. He looked down to see the young boy smiling at him but hiding behind his dad's legs. Chris gave him a small smile, feeling more awkward than ever.
"This is our whitelighter, Chris Perry." Piper mentioned. Chris did a half wave at the new neighbors but he looked down to see Jamie with a huge grin on his face, staring at him. Chris gave him a small smile, feeling more awkward than ever.
"How about Chris and Charlie take the heavy stuff and we take the less heavy stuff." Phoebe suggested.
"Gee, thanks." Chris said, rolling his eyes.
Hours later, after the Black family settle in their new home, they joined dinner with the Halliwell sisters and Chris in the manor. Jamie and Wyatt were in the sun room, watching cartoons with their toys displayed around them while the adults were in the other room, watching and talking with one another.
"So, if you are not witches…. then what are you?" Piper asked.
"I'm an angel." Charlie said.
The sisters looked at him confused. "Don't you mean a whitelighter?" Paige corrected him.
Charlie chuckled, "No, I'm a real angel with wings."
"And you can fly?"
"Yep every male is chosen in a family line of witches or any mystical people to become one." Charlie explained. "I don't know the reason or how we became angels…maybe it has something to do with a different service of guardian angels in the magical realm. But I have accepted what I am and don't want to know beyond that."
"I'm half witch and half nymph." Amanda said and laughed at the expressions of the witches. My father was a witch and my mother was a nymph. My specialized power is controlling earth molecules. I know it's strange because nymphs can't stay away from the outside but, the Elders granted my mother to become human to be with dad. I ended up having half her abilities."
"Wow." Piper said again. She glanced at the blonde boys in the sun room, "And Jamie?"
"He doesn't have any powers yet. But give it three or four more years and he'll have one."
"How old is he?"
"He turned five about a few months ago." Amanda said and placed her hand on her lower stomach. "Actually, we're expecting another child." Chris coughed on his drink while the sisters cheered in excitement. Amanda laughed and told them that she was two months along.
"That's wonderful!" Phoebe squealed and Chris winced at the noise. "What do you want? A boy or a girl?"
"A girl," The couple said at the same time.
Amanda kissed her husband's cheek. "Only because you wish to spoil a girl."
While the magical ladies got lost in their excited conversation with Charlie, Chris excused himself to head to the outside porch. He sat down and looked up at the stars in the dark sky. He could hear the laughter grew louder and louder and he smiled to hear something different in the household. There were sounds of happiness and not despair. It has been a long time since he has heard laughter like that. Suddenly, he saw a heart shape star in the sky.
"Angelica," Chris whispered as he closed his eyes, remembering her own laughter.
After talking and eating, the Black family decided to go to their new home and get some sleep, but not before planning a play date for Wyatt. The two Halliwell sisters began to clean up the kitchen while Piper put Wyatt to sleep. After she was done, Phoebe walked out of the kitchen and noticed Chris sleeping on the porch. She smiled, happy to know that he is sleeping than hunting more demons for him or her sisters to kill. She pulled a blanket on him and pulled his brown hair out of his eyes. It was strange for the witch to notice just how young he looked.
Suddenly, she gasped as vision tumbled on her.
A young girl about thirteen or fourteen years old was sitting on the floor in a library wearing dark jeans and a blue top. Her long, dark hair pulled into the side and the sun light from outside, hit the glass window. The little rays hitting her, making her angelic beauty more captivating.
"Book any good?" A boy's voice asked.
She lifted her head, to see a boy around her age, with brown hair that reached down to his jaded green eyes wearing dark jeans and a white t-shirt, leaning against a wall. He moved away and sat next to her.
"Romeo and Juliet?" He read the title from her book. He chuckled, "Why do you keeping reading the same book repeatedly?"
"I like to read." She answered. "Besides, I love reading these kinds of books."
He rolled his eyes, "Yeah I know."
She laughed as she punched his shoulder playfully. "What part are you reading?" He asked, grabbing her book.
"O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of the night. As a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear. Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear." He read and then, he began laughing.
"Chris! What's so funny?"
"It's…nothing." Chris chocked on his laughter. "But he describes her as a star in his darkness and made him forget about everything and everyone. How can that even happen?"
"Isn't that what love is? To make you forget about your life and just focus on the present." She asked. "Haven't you ever been in love?"
Chris finally stopped laughing and stared directly at his friend's angelic face. "I'll let you know when I get there." He promised.
Phoebe gasped as she removed from her vision and removed her hand from Chris's head. She looked down at him. She couldn't believe it. The young teenager in her vision was Chris and he looked so happy and not so neurotic. But who was that girl? Was she a friend? An old girlfriend? She had to tell her sisters.
"What does it mean?" Paige asked, leaning against her bedroom door.
"I honestly don't know." Phoebe said. "But Chris was…exultant and he was smiling and laughing."
"That isn't our Chris." Piper reminded her.
"We'll ask him tomorrow because I am tired." Paige yawned. "Good night."
"Good night." Piper and Phoebe said.
The next day, Piper suggested that Jamie could stay at her house while Charlie and Amanda went grocery shopping for their new house. This time, Piper made food for the kids and everyone else. Chris came in the kitchen, his clothes all wrinkled and the bags under his eyes gone.
"Hello Sleeping Beauty." Piper smiled as she handed him a plate with small sandwiches.
"What time is it?" Chris asked, groggily.
"It's one in the afternoon."
Chris snapped his head up, confused. He doesn't even remember a time he has slept in so late like that. "Where are your sisters?"
"They're at work. They should be here for their lunch break."
"Why is Jamie here?" Chris asked, seeing Jamie and Wyatt draw in the living room.
"What's with the questions?" Piper asked.
He shrugged as he took a bite from the sandwich. He didn't bother to answer her. Then, he heard the front door open and closed. "Honey, we're home!" Phoebe yelled.
"In the kitchen!" Piper yelled back.
Phoebe and Paige walked inside and saw Chris sitting on the stool, looking tired. "Did you just wake up?" Paige asked.
"Yeah, that's probably the longest sleep I had in a long time." Chris replied, honestly.
"Well, eat up. I don't want to waste good food here." Piper said.
"Yes ma'am."
After they were done eating, Chris notice Romeo and Juliet book in Phoebe's bag and looked in both directions before grabbing the book. He sat down on the couch with the kids in front of him. He opened the book and smiled, reading the prologue immediately. It's been a while since he read this particular book. Then, blue and white orbs appeared in front of him and Chris didn't need to be a genius to know who the orbs belongs to.
"Leo." Chris said without looking up. "Piper's in the kitchen."
"Okay thanks." Leo said but stopped, noticing the book title. "Romeo and Juliet?"
"I found it in Phoebe's bag."
"What were you doing in Phoebe's bag?" Leo asked, folding his arms across his chest.
Before Chris could reply, Phoebe walked in and kissed Wyatt on the head and sat next to Chris on the couch. "Romeo and Juliet. You like it?" She asked. Chris shrugged but closed the book this time. "Do you want to know what's my favorite part in the play?"
"Forbidden love?" Leo and Chris guessed.
Phoebe glared at the males, "No. When Romeo describes Juliet as a star fighting against the darkness." Phoebe told him. "O, she doth teach the torches to burn light! It seems –"
"It seems she hangs upon the cheek of the night. As a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear. Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear." Chris recited and finished. Then, he noticed Phoebe staring at him with a goofy smile on her face and Leo looked at him surprise. Chris rolled his eyes. "What?"
"You weren't even on that page." Phoebe said. "You memorized that line?"
"No! I just –" Chris closed his mouth in a thin line. But he remembered the goofy smile on her face and he groaned. He glared at the witch. "You put this book in your bag on purpose. Why?"
Phoebe opened her mouth to lie but Chris narrowed his eyes on her. "Okay, okay!" She put her hands up and shivered because the way he looked at her reminded her of Prue. I had a vision, okay? You were reading the play with a girl." Chris stiffened his seat. "It looked like you were about fourteen years old and both of you were in –"
"We were in the library," Chris interrupted her. He closed his eyes and took a breath. "I don't know why you even had that vision but it doesn't mean anything."
"Was she an old girlfriend?" Leo asked.
"Will we meet her soon?" Phoebe asked.
Chris shook his head and couldn't look at either of the adults. "I have to go." He said suddenly and disappeared in blue and white orbs.
"Chris!" Phoebe yelled. "I really hate it when he does that."
Piper and Paige came out of the kitchen, wondering what's happening. "Where's Chris?" Piper asked.
"He orbed away."
"I hate it when he does that." Paige said, repeating Phoebe's words.
Suddenly, a bunch of demons shimmered in the room and surrounded the sisters and Leo. Some threw their fireballs at them but Paige managed to reflect it back at them and Piper to freeze them. But there was a problem, they forgot about the children.
"Leo! Take Wyatt and Jamie out of here!" Piper yelled.
Leo nodded his head as he grabbed Wyatt and Jamie, orbing away.
"Piper, behind you!" Paige yelled but she was too late as her older sister was thrown against a wall of the staircase and fell to the ground.
"Chris!" Phoebe yelled as she ducked behind the couch.
"Chris. we need you!" Paige yelled, hiding behind a couch with Phoebe.
"Chris! Demons are here!" Piper yelled and finally, Chris orbed in.
Chris looked at the sisters, "Where are they?"
"Piper!" Phoebe yelled.
A couple of demons had their fireballs and electric balls ready in their hands to throw them at Piper. The eldest witch stood in her spot, ready to blow them up. But she knew there were too many of them. She could try to freeze them but her head was spinning. But she won't go down without a fight. A demon lifted his hand –
Chris's green eyes widened with fury. "NO!" Chris roared.
