that twirly thing

a/n: for maisie - because without her, i wouldn't have had an excuse to write this mess

It was a normal afternoon and Amycus was licking things when Alecto went up to him and announced that she wanted to learn to perform ballet.

Amycus, always supportive, decided to indulge this new hobby of hers. He took her to the store and bought her a tutu and some ballet slippers. Then he told her that their basement would work wonderfully as a ballet studio.

The one problem with this was that Alecto saw no need to start with the basics. She had seen ballet dancers perform sequences of pirouettes and was entirely convinced that she could do the same.

Unfortunately, her lack of training prevented her from being able to do this.

In the basement, Alecto was prepared to get started. She lifted herself onto the ball of her foot and began to turn.

Unsurprisingly, this did not go the way Alecto expected it to. She lost her balance and fell to the basement floor, where she promptly burst into tears.

Amycus heard her crying from upstairs and hurriedly rushed to make sure that she was all right. He found her on the floor of the basement with a bruise on her arm from where she'd fallen and asked her what was wrong.

Still in tears, Alecto told him that she'd been trying to do 'that twirly thing' and had fallen and hurt herself.

"A pirouette?" he asked her. She nodded. "Alecto, you can't do that yet, you have to practice first!" Amycus helped her up and dusted her off a bit. "We'll have to sign you up for some lessons. If we do that, you'll be able to do a pirouette someday."

Amycus did just that, and the lessons helped. At first, Alecto did fall and hurt herself, but eventually she began to gain more balance.

Finally, after a while of the lessons, Alecto was ready to attempt a pirouette again. This time...she succeeded!

From this episode, Alecto learned the value of hard work. And Amycus learned that if your sister ever decides she wants to learn ballet, you should never allow her to go it alone.
