Spinner Mason stood with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Liz at his side. The preacher was finishing the prayer and Liz tossed her rose onto her mother's grave.
Spinner closed his eyes. How am I going to raise Liz without you Emily? He thought. Tears sprang to his eyes and he jumped as someone touched his arm. He turned and looked at Kendra. He put his arm around her and then they hugged and she bawled on him. He was grateful that Kendra and her husband, Toby had come all the way to New York from Toronto to be with him, especially today. They had been with him and Liz all weekend.
Spinner watched at Emily's coffin stopped at the bottom of the whole and he took Liz by the shoulder and turned her away. They went back to the limousine and climbed in.
At the apartment, Liz walked into her bedroom and crawled up in the middle of her bed. "She's taking it hard," Toby said.
"She found her," Spinner replied.
"I took it hard after Rick."
Spinner nodded and he started to cry again and clung to his brother-in-law for comfort.
Kendra was in the bedroom with Liz. Liz and Cocoa, the dog in the corner of the room, who was moping for Emily, were all that Spinner had left of his wife.
"I'm planning on moving back to Toronto," Spinner said.
"Have you told Liz?" Toby asked, pouring himself and Spinner some coffee.
Spinner shook his head. "I just have to get out of this house," he said, standing up with his coffee. "Everything reminds me of her."
"I want to go, too," Liz said, standing at the door.
Spinner looked at her and nodded. "Ok, baby," he said. "Go start packing."
