The Changed ending of Romeo and Juliet

She feared the way watching him go made her feel. Feared the way her body went limb and the way her throat had closed and her chest filled with sobs. She never thought she would feel this way, for anything and anyone, and yet here she was and never had she let herself think it would be him that would bring her to her knees. It is true that you never know what you had till it's gone. Why did he have to leave now? Now that she was coming to terms with everything? Now that she didn't want him gone.

What could she do though? His back was to her and her voice had fled her, her body still in shock. All she could do was watch him with a heavy heart and tears in her now dull and lifeless blue eyes.

"No." It was one whispered word, a broken whisper no one heard. Not her mother who was standing next to her, trying to calm her, nor her boyfriend who looked confused and angry. No one standing within five feet from her heard her, but the boy breaking her heart did. From his position by the door his head snapped up and he turned her way. His normally sparkling clear eyes were now darker and looked so helpless, it caused her to whimper.

He looked torn and confused at her anguished face. "Don't go" she mouthed to him, making his eyes widen. What was she saying? He thought she would have been happy with him leaving. He ignored his father's call and ignored the lump in his throat together with the aching in his heart. He had to focus on her now, had to make sure she was okay, his needs came later. He would deal with the pain of being in even more contact with her, before leaving later on his own. Anything for her. He couldn't stand the thought of her in pain, he couldn't stand there and watch her fall apart, for whatever reason it was.

She watched him step closer to her then hesitate. She had yet to regain any rational thoughts and hoped to her coffee gods that her eyes sad everything she couldn't find words for. She couldn't stand the distance between them, she had to be close to him, had to hold him and be able to smell the odor that was uniquely him. She had to keep him close to her and tell him to never let go of her. So not caring who was watching or that she would loose a grade for this, she ran, she broke a Gilmore Girl rule and ran, wrapping her arms around his neck and jumping into his open arms. He caught her and she couldn't have felt safer.

"Mary" he breathed feeling complete for the first time in his life, not wanting to let her go, ever. Neither of them noticed the people looking at them in shock, they didn't see Tristan's father look on confused then share a soft smile with Lorelai. None of them knew that it was the start of a happy ending, the one changed ending to Romeo and Juliet, the one that wasn't tragic but brought tears to your eyes nevertheless. It was there beginning, the beginning of Tristan and his Mary together forever.
