Luigi stirred a little in bed as he gently rubbed his eyes. His fiancé, Daisy, was still sleeping soundly next to him, her red hair tousled on the pillow. He smiled at her and thought about all that happened. They were engaged to be married; soon he would become a prince. But princedom didn't matter much to him, so much as his actual luck in getting to marry her.
They weren't in the castle now. Luigi had taken what little savings he had and bought a home for them. He had apologized to Daisy about his meager means, but she wouldn't hear a word of it. She often yearned to get away from being a princess, and living in a cozy home with him was a dream come true. It was a short ways away from the Mushroom Kingdom, and all was well with them.
He'd do anything for her, he'd risk his life to protect her, save her kingdom, be her knight in shining green armor. That last thought made him think of what else to do for her, and he also felt a growling in his stomach. Daisy's usually hungry when she wakes up too. I don't want to wake her…she's so pretty…I know! I'll make her breakfast. Shouldn't be that hard to do, right?
He gently slipped out of bed and went into the kitchen. Okay, what do I do first? Let's see…what to make…bacon and eggs are pretty simple to do. And toast and juice are easy. That sounds good. I need a pan…pan…pan…where do we keep the pans? Ah, here we go.
He got out a pan and turned on the stove, getting the eggs out of the fridge. I love cracking eggs. I'll start with two. Aaaand, break! …break! ….break, damn you! Rrrrrgh….it's an eggshell, why won't it crack? Aaagh, my shirt! Luigi thought in distress as he ended up with egg all over himself. He grumbled off to go wash up.
Toast is in the toaster….no; the bread is in the toaster. Toast doesn't go into a toaster, bread does. Why do they call it toast and not bread after that happens, anyway? Never mind. Time for the bacon.
He got the bacon out of the fridge and turned on another pan. Here we are…wow, that started frying pretty quick. Ow! The grease is popping! Ow! Ow! Hot! He turned down the heat and quickly stepped away from the pan. Whew. Who knew cooking could be so dangerous? What's that smell? …THE TOAST!
He quickly yanked the plug to the toaster out of its socket as he smelled something burning. He pushed the lever to bring the toast up and looked at it. It's salvageable. Daisy likes hers a little burnt anyway. She'll be up soon. I'd better finish.
Daisy roused herself with a yawn, savory scents stealing to her nose. Her eyes fluttered open and she saw Luigi carrying a tray, a sheepish smile on his face. "Good morning."
She smiled back, sitting up. "Good morning…what's all this? You made me breakfast? How sweet!"
Luigi blushed and shrugged a bit. "It isn't much, I'm afraid." Daisy's eyes twinkled. "It's wonderful. What'd you make me?"
"Well, it started out as eggs over easy…then it became eggs over hard…the bacon's kinda chewy…the toast is a bit burnt and mangled…but the juice should be fine." Daisy giggled. "Well, it was still nice of you. Here, why don't you lay back down and I'll go make us some breakfast?"
Luigi smiled, putting down the tray and accepting a kiss from her. She placed her arms around his neck and kissed him again. "You're wonderful, Luigi."
He blushed, a shy smile on his lips. "You too, Princess." As she went out into the kitchen, he sighed and thought that if they could have mornings like this, he hoped he botched breakfast every day of his life.
