Just a quick Kel/Faleron drabble, written for SMACKDOWN at fiefgoldenlake dot proboards dot com.
He went because Kally was gone and the war dragged on and he was lonely. He never knew why she let him in that first time, the girl who put so much stake in consequences. But everyone had secrets, and hers must have run deeper than he had realized.
In truth, it just didn't matter. They had a week together, seven days before he returned to the coast and she to her refugees, burdened with supplies and reports and unresolved feelings. He wondered what the balance would be, whether they would lose more than they gained in the end. But really, was there anything left to lose?
Every night he went to her rooms, swift and silent and purposeful, padding softly through the midnight halls.
And every morning he wished that she would realize what she truly deserved. Because someday a man would see her as more than an escape, and Keladry of Mindelan was not meant to play the shadow of a memory.
