Expectations

A/N: This just came to me as I was reading the book.

On a balcony of Eishin-an Sayuri sat in a chair beside the Chairman lost within her own thoughts. They had enjoyed a quiet meal together, as they did on many nights. The Chairman had brought her up to date on his job and life as he would his own wife. However, Suyuri knew that she was not his wife. The Chairman was her danna. In simpler terms, she was his mistress.

Sayuri was suddenly taken out of her thoughts when she noticed the Chairman intently looking at her. "I'm sorry, what did you just say? I seem to have missed it." Sayuri said with her ever seductive and innocent smile.

After many years of training, Sayuri had master many of the traits and gifts of being a geisha. One of them happened to be quickly covering her steps and mistakes.

"I didn't say anything." The Chairman replied, but his gaze didn't shift from her. Sayuri blushed out of embarrassment and how she suddenly felt very self-conscious. "What is wrong?"

"What would give danna-sama the impression that anything is wrong?"

His eyes did not shift, but softened. "You have been too quiet tonight Sayuri. It is not like you." The Chairman looked at her untouched glass of sake and back at her. "Well, what is it?" Sayuri's eyes dropped. She knew that her actions and attitude had been different then usual. She was just unsure of how to say what was needed. The Chairman reached out and touched her cheek. She allowed herself to get lost in the feeling. "Tell me, what is wrong."

"Danna-sama has two daughters." The Chairman nodded his head. He still didn't understand where she was going. She looked up at him. "As I am yours, I know that there are certain expectations of me. However, we have not talked about certain areas of our relationship…"

"Sayuri, I'm not in the mood for games. Just tell me what it is."

"For example we haven't talked about children and family…" The Chairman finally made the connection and looked wide-eyed at Sayuri. "Whatever you decide, I will obey it."

Sayuri knew that the choice of keeping a child in their relationship was not up to her. This lesson was clear to her from watching Mameha and the Baron's relationship. He had forced Mameha to abort all of their children. Therefore, Sayuri was ready for any answer.

Instead, she was surprise by what the Chairman. He had gotten up, came over to her, and was now kneeling by her. "Just as you are mine I am yours. You belong to me only as much as you want Sayuri. The real question is, what do you want? I am the one to obey you." His lips brushed against hers and there was an instant understanding.

So their kisses became more desperate as hands got involved and they moved inside the room. They made love there on the futon inside the house. As they lay on the futon sweaty and breathless, their bodies were still closely pressed together.

"A child would be nice." The Chairman mumbled into Sayuri's neck as he lay next to her holding her tightly and falling asleep.

Sayuri smiled and closed her eyes. The Chairman's expectations meant happiness for both of them. Exactly nine months later, happiness is what was received in the form of a little boy.

The End
