Just a quick little drabble inspired by a picture I drew yesterday. I know Cap's birthday was way back in July, but who cares?
I do not own niether Cap nor Coulson.
"Happy birthday, Cap." Coulson placed a small present in front of him.
Steve smiled at the agent! "Thanks, Coulson but I don't need another present." He gestured to the table in front of them. It was littered with brightly colored paper and gifts from his teammates. Which included Steve's old World War II helmet and shield Tony had dug up from one of his father's many storage units.
Coulson sat down next to Steve, "Oh I think. You'll want to open this one, Cap." He sliced himself a thick piece of chocolate cake and started to eait it.
Steve stared at him and a feeling of sudden trepidationnswept over him. Slowly, he carefully peeled the neatly wrapped paper to reveal a small white box. Surprised, Steve glanced inquiringly the agent but the man wasn't looking at him as he ate another bite.
Steve shrugged, opened the box, and nearly dropped it in shock. Nestled in some tissue paper, was his old compass. With a slightly shaking hand, he gingerly picked it up and held in his palm. A lump suddenly appeared in his throat and Steve swallowed. Taking a deep breath, he opened the copper compass. Staring back at him, was Peggy. His eyes watered and Steve swallowed again. He blinked furiously but a few tears managed to escape he quickly wiped them away.
Steve looked back at Coulson who was staring striaght ahead. "Thanks, Phil."
Coulson finally turned around, and smiled shyly, "You're welcome, Steve."
