Inuyasha's Choice

Why was everything so hard? Someone please take this life from my bleeding hands, away from my wounded heart. I just want a simple life. I want peace with Sesshomaru. I want Kagome. God, why didn't I tell her I loved her before I fought with Naraku? I can see mother. She's beckoning me to her. Through the darkness, she is all I see.

'Mother?' I called softly. I didn't hear my voice but I know I said it. She held out her open arms. I began walking toward her. It felt like I was moving through water and I moved slowly. Then, I heard another voice in the black void. I looked behind me.

'Inuyasha, stay with me. Don't go.' I heard her voice but her lips didn't move. She smiled my favorite smile of hers, opening her arms. My mother and Kagome both stood there, waiting. Then I realized, I'll have to choose. I looked to my mother, then to Kagome, then back again to my mother.

'I'm sorry, mother. I'm not ready to leave just yet.' I said and turned to kagome, walking to her. My mother dissolved as kagome closed the short distance between us, cupping my face in her hands. She pressed her lips to mine in a soft, warm kiss. Soon, she dissolved but the feeling of her wonderful lips did not.

I opened my eyes to see Kagome's eyes squeezed shut, tears making her cheeks glisten. I snaked my hand up to the back of her head and rested it there, moving my fingers in her hair a little. She gave a small whimper and slid her arms under my neck, bringing my body to here. I put my other hand on the small of her back.

She was so warm. I felt cold. I didn't know why. Then I remembered. I had fought with Naraku and he put a tentacle through my chest. The last thing I remembered before blacking out was throwing my Tetsuseiga at him.

Suddenly I pulled away and looked at Kagome. "Naraku?"

Kagome smiled and turned to the side. On the wall behind her was a skeleton with Naraku's clothing, my sword pinning him to the wall at the center of his chest.

I smiled wildly and pulled Kagome to me, hugging her tightly. She hugged back just as hard as we heard Sango, Miroku, and Shippo run up to us.

It was finally over. We started to leave the cave when I paused. I took a looked back at Naraku's form. To the left of the skeleton was a faint figure. My mother.

"Goodbye, my son." she said softly, but her lips didn't move. She began to fade until she was nothing.

"Goodbye, mother."
