An attempt to escape

Gohan silently flew toward the lookout. He lacked the enthusiasm and cheerfulness that people had come to associate with him. In fact if someone were to have seen him at this moment they would have said that he looked thoroughly depressed. The truth was, he was tired and frustrated. Tired of everyone expecting something from him, and frustrated from not being able to fulfill those expectations. Everyone wanted something from him, and he was tired of trying to make everyone happy, especially his parents. Damn it, it simply was too annoying to try to be a fighter and a genius at the same time.

But now he thought he had a solution, one that Dende would help him implement. He slowly landed next to Dende who seemed to be expecting him.

"Dende, I want you to send me to another dimension" Gohan said instantly deciding that there was no point to try and beat around the bush.

Dende seemed to be caught off guard by Gohan's request "But why Gohan?"

"Because Dende, I am tired of people expecting things from me. Dad wants me to train, mom wants me to study, Videl wants me to be her boyfriend. If I go somewhere no one knows me, no one will want anything from me!"

Dende saw several flaws in this logic but strongly suspected that Gohan would not be swayed if he unveiled them. "Why another dimension though?" he asked trying his best to keep Gohan from leaving. "Why not space, it is less drastic and it would be easier to return."

"Because" Gohan returned dryly "The minute my mom finds out, she will send everyone after me whether they like it or not. I would really rather not be followed if you don't mind. And mom would not be able to send to anyone after me since you won't tell anyone where I've gone."

Dende seemed slightly scared of Gohan. He might be Kami, but he was still much weaker than Gohan and he knew what Gohan was capable of when angered. But suddenly a gleam entered his eye and he answered "Alright, there is a device that sends you to another dimension randomly."

"Alright," Gohan answered happily "Where is it?"

"Follow me" Dende said and led him to the belly of the lookout. He pointed to a silver mirror with a surreal light surrounding it.

"There is something you should know," Dende said "you won't remember a thing about yourself. Total amnesia, you will have the powers and knowledge you accumulated, but you won't know who you are. That is the price to escape"

Gohan did not even wait for him to say anything else but began to run straight into the light. He stopped suddenly for he knew that he would need a story to explain his memory loss. He raised his hand and shot a weak blast at himself. It was not enough to hurt him with his ki raised, but with it lowered it would look and feel as if he was near death. With luck he would be picked up by someone and thought to have amnesia from the "beating". With out considering his plan anymore he ran into the light.

The boy awoke groggily. His entire body ached, he looked down and was shocked to find he was bleeding. He shakily raised a hand to his face but fell back, for some reason he felt utterly exhausted. Then as he closed his eyes he realized something that would have forced him to his feet if he had the strength, he had no idea who he was, or where he was. His attempt to consider this further was interrupted by a large brutish looking man, who for a reason the boy could not fathom, was grinning, had his club out, and had put his foot down on the boy's head…
