Just a trigger warning... This story contains self harm, depression, and other sensitive subjects. Please read with caution.
Her eyes filled with tears, the salty liquid ran down her cheeks and dripped off her chin, onto her baby pink button up shirt. She stood at the top of Mt. Ebbot and looked down onto the town of Ebbot City. Her bright green eyes shimmered in the light of the setting sun as she committed the most dangerous pass-time; Thinking. She thought of all the mistakes she had made, all the things she shouldn't have done, the things she should have done, the people she upset, and how she could have done things differently.
They would be better off without me... She thought to herself, all positive thoughts gone. She looked down at her breast pocket, and pulled out a small razorblade, then rolled her left sleeve up, revealing a clean arm, no scars, no bruises, just a few freckles. As she lowered the razorblade onto her wrist, more tears streamed down her face.
No one would miss me if I just died... She thought again, starting to shake. She hesitated, but then with one quick slice, cut her wrist open, blood spilling out. She dropped the razorblade and whaled in pain, holding her wound with her hand. She instantly regretted cutting herself like that.
"Why the fuck did I think this was a good idea?!" She yelled at herself, and then slapped her own face a couple times with her right hand, then heard footsteps and panicked. She whimpered a little and rolled down her sleeve, then tried to find a place to hide. This was not a good time to socialize...
"I think it came from over here!" A woman's voice said. She sounded sweet, almost motherly in a way.
"MAYBE IT IS AN INJURED HUMAN! WE CAN HEAL THEM, AND MAYBE THEY WILL BE OUR FRIEND!" This voice was loud and obnoxious, yet sweet like a cinnamon roll.
"don't get too excited, bro. you might scare em silly, then i'll have to tell em some of my amazing jokes." This voice was deep and relaxed, yet seemed very comforting.
When she couldn't find a place to hide, she fell to her knees and covered her face with her blood covered hands and started to cry again, still in allot of pain.
"Why did I do this to myself? Why am I like this? Why am I so fucking depressed?" She whispered to herself. Soon after, three monsters approached her from behind.
"Oh my stars... Are you alright, my child?" The tall goat monster asked, her voice sweet and soothing. She didn't respond, she only whimpered a little.
"IT IS OKAY, HUMAN! TORIEL, SANS AND I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, ARE HERE TO HELP YOU WITH WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU NEED!" The tall skeleton said, he didn't seem to see the blood all over the ground surrounding her.
"you alright kiddo? you're covered in blood... what happened?" The shorter skeleton asked, his voice soothing to hear.
"I-I cut myself..." She managed to whimper out, making Toriel gasp. She could only assume the goat monster was Toriel, since she is the only female there.
"Why would you do such a thing, my child?" Toriel said as she knelt down next to her and placed a gentle paw on her back.
"oh god... that's... oh god..." Sans could only stammer after he heard her say she cut herself. For, he used to be depressed, and he used to cut. As for Papyrus, he was confused. Such an innocent cinnamon roll.
"CUT YOURSELF? ON A STICK? A ROCK? WAS IT A SHARP THING? OR MAYBE A PAPER CUT?" Papyrus asked, very innocently confused.
"I don't want to be alive anymore..." She said as she uncovered her face and looked down at her shaking hands. Toriel hushed her and rubbed her back comfortingly. Papyrus was still confused, but Sans had an overwhelming understanding for what she was going through.
"i know how it feels..." He said as he sat next to her and attempted to gently grab her cut wrist to look at it. Toriel had tears in her eyes from simpathy for the poor girl.
"what's your name?" Sans asked, she hesitated, but eventually spoke.
"Danielle... Danielle the Vampire..." The girl said, Toriel took Dani's wrist and put a paw over the cut, and green magic started to flow into her arm, healing it.
"i'm sans, sans the skeleton." Sans said as he put a bony hand on her back. "i understand what you're goin' through. i used to be pretty depressed."
"You did...?" Dani asked, letting the goat monster heal her wounds.
"YES, MY BROTHER WAS VERY SAD WHEN WE WERE TRAPPED UNDERGROUND, BUT WHEN THE HUMAN BROKE THE BARRIER HE GOT MUCH BETTER!" Papyrus said as he sat in front of Dani, a large smile on his face.
"Oh..." Dani sniffed and attempted to wipe the tears off her face, but just managed to get blood all over it. "Shit..."
"Language, my child!" Toriel said sternly.
"Sorry..."
"what drove you to self harm? what was it that triggered you?" Sans asked, slowly rubbing circles into Dani's back.
"I got into an argument with my parents, I don't really remember what started it, but I remember it was about college... I just graduated high school last year... They don't think I'm cut out for college..." Dani started, then tears started to fill her eyes. "I didn't mean to say what I said..." She whimpered.
"What did you say, my child?" Toriel asked sweetly.
"I told them... That I hated them..." Dani's whimpering turned into sobs, and she hugged the nearest Entity she could find, which happened to be Sans. Sans hugged back and hushed her quietly.
"shh, it's ok. i'm sure they know that you didn't mean it. they're your parents, after all. we all get into fights with our parental figures." Sans said as he rubbed Dani's back. She nodded and sobbed a little more onto his shoulder, then pulled away.
"I don't even know you guys... You're strangers, and yet you're helping me..." Dani said, confused. "Why would you help someone you hardly know?"
"BECAUSE WE CARE." Papyrus said simply.
"Exactly. You may not be someone we know, but we will help you either way." Toriel said sweetly.
"Really?" Dani asked, brushing off the now flakey dry blood off her hands.
"really. and i don't usually make promises, but this time i'll make an acception. i promise to be there for you whenever you're feeling like this, ever again. if you ever need me, just call." Sans said with a wide grin as he handed Dani a card. 'Sans The Skeleton. Professional Pun Master/Comedian.' Dani smiled at his gesture of kindness and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you." She said quietly into his ear. "No one has ever helped me like this before... So thank you."
