N Fan Fic 2 Draft 1
The Claws of Death
Deep underground, away from the prying eye, sat the largest research centre the world would ever know. Laid out like a university campus, only with a large dome right in the centre, the think tank. This was and most likely still is the greatest storehouse of scientific knowledge and experiments. The think tank had a facility for every science known to man and would attract the greatest minds to tackle the greatest problems facing the world. Hover technology, force field generators, DNA splicing, invisibility suits, radiation removers. These were all technologies researched and created inside the think tank. Any question posed could be answered, until the mushroom war. As fire rained down on the surface, the scientists sealed themselves in, fearing the fate that would befall them. As chaos took hold in the facility, the scientists realised, they had asked the wrong questions.
Hurry up everyone, these caves don't illuminate themselves, the candy monarch kept yelling as she made her way deeper into the recently uncovered cavern. PB, needing a hidden location for certain experiments, had hired several highly experienced goblin miners and architects to help build her master laboratory. The project had recently run into certain problems however as an extremely large cave had been discovered under the planned site. Princess, called CJ, the head miner, what's the plan to explore the chasm, he asked. We will send one of the miners down with flares and glow sticks to illuminate a small area before sending more down to set up a small base of operations. Got it. Yes princess, he muttered before rushing off to tell the others. Dropping a flare in indicated that the caverns bottom was around 100 metres down so the next hour was spent setting up ropes and spikes for abseiling, acquiring the glow sticks flares and torches and arguing over who was to be sent down. After the decision was finally made, the goblin harnessed himself and began his descent. He couldn't see far with his mining torch, but the glow sticks he was dropping were starting to reveal a shadowy figure. OH GOD. NO NO AAGHHHHHHHHHH…
The group were powerless as they heard the cries of their colleague. They just sat there, staring down until one felt a weight drop from the rope. He's gone. There's no more weight. Bring it up, the princess said urgently, we need to make sure whatever it is doesn't make it out. At the mention of this, three miners hastily pulled up the rope. It was torn just above the harness, a small bit of blood at the new end. As the princess examined this and the miners stared into the space, something came flying up and hit the wall behind them, the head of their dead friend, now half mushed against a cave wall, sat not 5 metres from the crew. RUN, she yelled as she grabbed the head slowly sliding down the cave wall. The miners didn't need a reminder. They hit a full sprint and ran all the way up the stairs before they heard something land, something big. The rest of the miners were out before the heavy steel doors locked into place. Everything was sealed underground, with only the head of a deceased miner and the sounds it made while killing him to make an image of this monster.
