"We should hang out sometime," the boy whose name she had completely forgotten said as they made their way outside the classroom and joined the crowd that was on their way to the courtyard where they would spend their lunch hour.
Peyton mumbled in agreement. Although she really had no intention of spending time outside of their shared class with old what's-his-name, she hadn't the heart to flat out tell him no because she had been the one to strike up a conversation with him first. For two specific reasons, really. One was because it was the first day of classes, their teacher had droned on and on about basically nothing which led her to grow bored with nothing to do (she hadn't brought anything to draw with, the blonde, while running late to school, had forgotten her backpack). And two, she had absolutely no friends in that particular class (geometry; her group of friends struggled with basic algebra, to her disappointment). Needless to say, she had turned to the person to the left of her and whispered just how bored she was. The person to her left being the boy whose name escaped her that wanted to 'hang out sometime'.
She tugged on the sleeves of the light long sleeved shirt she wore, not knowing what to do with her hands. The boy still beside her, words falling from his lips. She paid no attention to him. She just wanted to bolt out the door and find her friends, but figured that would have been rude. She really wished he would give her something to be pissed about...
"Peyton!"
Her head snapped up at the sound of her name. At the familiar voice. And a smile appeared on her lips as she came to a complete stop and slowly turned to look behind her.
Nathan was making his way over.
"Hey, missed you this morning," he greeted when he got close enough to plant a kiss on her lips. She returned it and felt him slid an arm over her shoulder. He smiled down at her as he pulled away and then slowly turned to look at the other boy. His smile turning into an arrogant smirk... "Lucas."
Peyton frowned.
"Nathan," Lucas gave a slight nod of his head, although his eyes were slightly narrowed in anger or maybe just annoyance.
And then Peyton's eyes widened in realization.
Oh. Shit.
She did not just spend an entire class hour in a conversation with Nathan's brother!
She blinked and looked away from Lucas. Unable to believe that she had just been talking to and then walking down the halls with him without much thought. She was well aware of the tension between the Scott brothers. How in the hell had she forgotten that? She slipped her arm around Nathan's waist as she looked up at him with a shrug, an apology in her eyes.
Nathan just smiled at her before he led her away...
And for a brief moment, Peyton thought that she should have just turned to the person to the right of her. Then she wouldn't have felt bad for being bored.
