A/N- Okay so I wrote this way back at day 2 of phanniemay

I like how it came out so I thought I'd put it up here too

Danny always wanted to be an astronaut.

Of course, his grades were never quite NASA material. He was smart, but didn't really pay attention. And starting a few months into freshman year, it became clear there was no way he'd ever get into a good college.

There were several factors to his sudden drop in grades, Jazz knew. Dash was one, but a few dozen punches a day didn't really hurt him too much. The major one was that he was never home.

Never home, so he could never work. His homework was usually scribbled in gibberish and dotted with drool, if it was done at all. He got home so late that there was little to no time to study. And it was always the same lame excuse, at the Nasty Burger or Sam's house or some such and lost track of time. Honestly, she didn't know how their parents always fell for it.

Jazz was worried about him. And not just because of his flunking grades. Oftentimes he would zone out in a conversation out of sleep deprivation, or come home covered in hidden cuts and bruises.

As she made her way to the window, a flash of black and white caught her eye. A small grunt of effort made it past her lips as she pushed the window open and leaned out, the wind whipping her hair across and away from her face. Squinting, she could see the infamous Danny Phantom dancing through the air, seemingly enjoying a night off from the constant ghost attacks he protected the city from.

A smile crossed her lips as her whole face relaxed. Danny Phantom, also known as Danny Fenton. Her little brother. Her little brother who, because he used all his time protecting; protecting his family and protecting the town, was failing out of the ninth grade.

Her eyes slid shut as she imagined Danny's position. What did it feel like to fly? It must be amazing: being able to break free from the boundaries of the earth, sliding through the air and ignoring physics. But at the same time, it must be the most terrifying thing on earth. Knowing that you could fall at any time, and there would be no one there to catch you, no net waiting below? How anyone could manage to do that without fear was impossible to comprehend.

Maybe Danny never would be an astronaut. But he could get pretty close to that on his own.
