My feet echoed along the castle corridor and I rolled a strain of bright red around my index finger. I loved walking around Hogwarts; it was so quiet and peaceful, so beautiful that it almost always took my breath away. Both James and Sirius were greatly amused by this tidbit of information, but I didn't care. For an average muggleborn like me, Hogwarts was a dream.
I smiled to myself. A year ago I would never have imagined that I would be on friendly terms with the infamous James Potter and Sirius Black, ring leaders of the well known Marauders. Until this year, if you told me that I would have become friends with them, I would have told you that you should be admitted into the crazy wing of St. Mungos, long term. But that was because they were arrogant, big headed, vain, egocentric..
I gasped as I felt strong fingers wrap around my wrist and I was pulled into a broom closet. I tried to push away, the effort was useless. He bent down and covered my lips with his. I finally forced him away, opening my mouth to speak. "Amos.."
My brown haired, brown eyed boyfriend pressed his finger to my lips before he ducked down and pressed his lips to mine for another kiss.
Amos Diggory was my boyfriend for two months, ever since he had asked me out a month into school. I tried to back away; I detested kissing in broom closets. Too cliche. I had even asked Sirius why he enjoyed it so much, but he had completely shut down, as he always does, when I mentioned Amos. It was common knowledge that he didn't approve of my relationship with Amos.
Amos captured my hands and pressed them to my hips as he continued to kiss me, and I purposely bit his lip. A splash of blood shot into my mouth, but it had the desired effect when Amos backed up, swearing under his breath. I opened the door and slid out before he could force his lips back on me.
At first, Sirius had discouraged me from accepting. I believe the words of his last argument had been: "Lily, this could only end in heartbreak."
I had dismissed his argument.
Not surprisingly, James didn't approve either. Sirius and James were a lot alike in some ways, but completely different in others. On this subject, they were almost exactly the same.
"I don't trust him Lily, and I don't think you should either. He has..ulterior motives."
I had dismissed his argument too.
"Lily?" Remus Lupin raised an eyebrow as he caught me in my breathless escape. I quickly fixed my hair and raised my head to meet his gaze evenly. "Amos. Sorry."
I slipped out of his grip and had to jog to Potions to avoid being late.
"Lily. Lily!" Amos's voice sounded from outside the Head Dorm. At James's request, I had denied Amos the password so that if he wanted to talk to me, he had to wait outside and call for entrance. It allowed James time to usually retreat to his own private room.
Amos and James disliked each other with a passion; which at first had seemed like a quidditch rivalry but I had started to believe was something more. Soon after I had started dating Amos I had found that he didn't like me spending any time with James or Sirius, which led to him often coming around at night.
James visibly grimaced and he pulled himself to his feet, running his hand through his hair before he turned to run up the stairs to the dorm. He paused at the top of the staircase, and I shot an apologetic look at him, but he turned away and snuck into his room.
I pulled the portrait open and Amos stepped in, wearing his traditional irritated expression that he always wore when he had to wait. He sauntered towards the spot that James had just evacuated and sat down. I sat on the opposite side of the couch as I moved by books to the maple coffee table.
Amos's eyes became drawn to the other pile of books on the coffee table. His lips tightened and his fingers rolled into a fist. "Whose books are those?"
I adverted my gaze. "James's."
Amos jumped to his feet. "What are Potter's books out?"
I rose to my feet and picked up the books. "This is his common room too. I will just run them up to him if that makes you feel better."
Amos raised his fist, and I shrunk away and slipped around the other side of the couch. "You were with him!"
I took a deep breath and set the books on the step. "Yes, I was. I can hang out with James if I want to, Amos, and despite what you think, you don't own me!" My voice continuously got louder as I spoke. I had no doubt that James would be able to hear us now, and part of me wanted him to come down the steps and force Amos out. I shook my head and crossed my arms. Amos made a growling noise in his throat and took a step towards me. "I forbid you to speak to Potter."
"You forbid me? What gives you the right to forbid me?" I was slightly distracted as James's door swung open and he appeared at the beginning of the staircase. He jogged down the steps and stopped on the last one, where his books were stacked. He grabbed them and smiled apologetically. "Sorry to interrupt. Forgot my books."
James sent me a worried look as he turned, and I knew that he had heard the argument and hadn't been coming out to get his books. I tried to smile, but his brow deepened as he walked slowly back up the steps.
"I want you to leave, Amos." My words came out in a whisper. He started towards me but seemed to regain his composure and turned around and opened the portrait. He stopped before he had fully stepped out, looking back over his shoulder.
"You are a lucky bitch, you know that? You have me catering to your every need." His lips curled. "But I will expect payment, and I will get what I want. I always do, Lily Evans, and not even a stupid muggleborn will deny me that."
The portrait swung shut, leaving me standing like an idiot staring at the portrait.
