I stared at the new girl from across the room,

The aroma of her skin, hair, and blood

Driving me into insanity,

I concentrate on her face,

She is gazing at me as well,

Maybe at all of us –

Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, Alice,

Or maybe it was just me,

That is what I intend to find out.

I bore my eyes at her own,

Concentration is becoming hard for me

With her aroma burning at my nose;

I ignore the scent and continue.

Within the time of eternity, I come up with nothing,

I cannot read her thought as I read others.

"Impossible," I say to myself and try again, only to fail.

I run my tongue over my teeth, tasting my venom,

Knowing that if I lost control, I would kill her.

I wasn't willing enough to take that risk.
