This is a short, tragic story that takes place between the pages 276 to 277 of the New Jedi Order Story titled Vector Prime by R.A. Salvatore.

A Heroic Ending

Crystal

Chewbacca looked up at the Falcon.  That ship had been his pride, his joy, and his home for a great length of time.  He heard his dear friend, the rugged pilot Han Solo cry out his name.  Without a second thought he threw the youngest Solo child into Han's arms.  How he loved him.  He loved Han and Leia's children as if they were his own.

The ground rolled and bucked and Chewie knew it was the end.  Memories flashed about him, his father, his mother, his wife and son.  Memories of Han, Luke, and Leia.  Memories of raising the Solo children and fighting with Han and Anakin about the Falcon.

He raised his head and turning his body toward the falling Dobido one memory struck a cord him.  The memory of when Han saved him from Imperial Slavers.

He heard a noise behind him and knew it was the Falcon.  He turned and took a step forward.  He went to wave his friend off to tell him it was too late but before he could the rolling land took the Falcon away.

Chewie quickly regained his footing and watched the Falcon fly straight up.  That was obviously the work of Anakin.  Yes, he thought, go Anakin.  Save yourself, your father, all those people.  Make me proud.

He then turned to the moon and shaking his fist he roared, "They've defeated Death Stars, Jabba, Darth Vader, an Sun Crushers, they will defeat you too!  They are strong, they will live on, and they will win the day."  Han Solo you've made me proud in the past and I know you'll make me proud in the future.
