Short story about Jack and Carly. It's not much but I had to write something.
I own nothing.
The room smelled like heaven when the blonde duelist walked towards his favourite cafe. There was something about the scent of coffee that always put him in a good mood, even if he had only recently been in an argument with Crow about spending all their money again. So today he went out earned money, waved it in the Blackwing duelist's face and walked across the street to his favourite cafe.
He did catch the comment Yusei made under his breath about raising Crow's expectations of him working. He knew it meant those arguments were going to last longer. He couldn't help it. He was no good at working with other people. His ego wouldn't let him
He fussed over his favourite white coat before sitting down in his seat and flat out glared at the orange haired duelist who was off to work. He was flipped off by his friend who then drove off on the oversized black bike.
The brown haired waitress came by and smiled at him. "The usual?" She asked as sweetly as possible.
He nodded and tried not to roll his eyes as she squealed in delight before running off.
"Jackie." He tried not to flinch when the hyper female slipped into the seat next to him. "Thank you for the scoop." She smiled twisting her black hair around her fingers. The light hit her glasses just right so he could see her beautiful grey eyes.
He grumbled something about owing her. She didn't realise the effect she had on him. He was glad she didn't know.
Also Crow didn't need to know where the money came from.
She just smiled at him and played with the expensive camera with way too many dents in it. He watched the reflections of the pictures off her glasses.
"You know you've never lost a ground duel yet you keep losing turbo duels." Carly pointed out ever so innocently.
He glared at her. She however looked at him with those doe eyes and his resolve faltered. It annoyed him how he could never stay mad at her. "What do you want?"
She shrugged. She fiddled extensively with the camera. She was shaking.
The coffee cup coming down rather harshly shocked him but he didn't jump he just turned his glare to the waitress. "Sorry Jack." She shot Carly a glared before storming off and looked back to see if he was following her. He hadn't even bothered to move.
However he knew that wouldn't deter her. It never did.
"There are new turtles at the aquarium if you want to go see." The black haired angel said quietly.
He couldn't see her eyes and that is never a good thing. Sometimes when she got like this he expected her to look at him with those blue eyes framed by darkness and it worried him to hell. He knew that wouldn't happen but it didn't stop that.
He realised she was rambling again but left her to it. The look on her face and the movements of her arms told him it was work related again. He would offer to take care of her so she could quit her job and follow her hobby but he could barely look after himself.
For some reason his lap felt warm and Carly looked terrified. The empty cup really didn't click in until he looked down.
Carly was just apologising profusely.
He was so thankful their apartment was across the road.
