A/N: Im Tosagi. Just a little thingy I made up in like... an hour... so I dont expect it to be good. Usara beta-ed it for me.
Walking into her house quietly, Saria went over to her box that contained her precious instrument and picked it up. Carrying it from the shelf to the table, she slowly pulled a stool over and sat down, staring at the box. Smiling wistfully, she gently unlocked the box with a key she had strung about her neck, and opened it.
Taking out her brown, wooden ocarina, she reached for her rag and set to work, shining it to get ready for the next day.
She sat on the edge of the bridge, waiting for Link to appear and begin to exit Kokiri Forest. Staring at her newly shined ocarina, she smiled sadly at it and played one last tune before he appeared. Sad and slow, she thought about the next few years, or more, or less, that she would have to bear until she could see him again. It had been very lonely even when he was gone for the few days in the Deku Tree. Hoping, wishing to see him emerge from the tree, better prepared to face the outside world and the challenges he would have to face.
Hearing footsteps begin to grow in sound, she stood up and walked past the rope into the bridge part. Watching him run towards the exit for the first time, she knew she would have to make an appearance fast.
"Oh..." She said. "You're leaving..." She saw him pause, and she stared at him as he turned around and met her eyes. He walked closer, and she saw that his eyes already looked older with only that trip into the dungeon. She nearly shuddered when she thought of what horrors he would've had to face.
"I knew..." She began, and she would see Link listening to her words intently. "I knew that you would leave the forest... Someday, Link." She took a deep, shuddering breath and continued. "Because... because you are different from all of my other friends." But you're special because you were my best friend, Link. She wanted to badly to say that, but she had to press on with the matter. "But... that's okay, because we'll be..." she wanted to insert 'best' into her sentence, but she wasn't sure that Link would feel the same way. Closing her eyes, she continued. "We'll be friends, forever. Won't we?" She smiled melancholy, and held out her precious item.
She saw him look at the ocarina. He stared at her in shock, as she held it out. "I... I want you to have... this ocarina..." she smiled, happier now, as she said, "Please take good care of it." Link looked at it, then back at Saria. Swallowing the lump that was beginning to form at her throat, she held it out farther, and released it as he took it with calm hands.
He's so calm. He looks like he doesn't even care that he's going to leave me. She thought sadly, slightly angry. Squashing the angry feeling, she told him how to use it.
Once she was done, she said quietly, "When... When you play my ocarina, I hope-" her voice hitched, and she paused before continuing, "-hope that you will think of me and come visit some time." She added a little happiness into that sentence, and failed miserably.
Link pocketed the ocarina, then took one, then two steps back, then ran out. She smiled melancholy and watched him leave as a tear trickled down her face. Goodbye, Link.
