A/N: I was a little bored last night so I decided to experiment with something other than Yuugiou. And, seeing as I'm currently obsessing over American McGee's Alice, I decided that I couldn't choose anything else more different and so sat down to write. This is a very short start at little under 340 words, so I apologise for that and, seeing as nothing much happens here, I apologise again.

This is the prologue to a multi-chapter story and, seeing how I'm not very good at committing, I doubt that I will stick to it. I don't even know what's going to happen in it yet, though I have a vague idea. Ideas are welcomed (needed) and, the more reviews I get, the more likely I am to actually commit.

Constructive criticism, plzktnx! God knows, I need it. ♥

Disclaimer: The stories of Alice and her adventures in Wonderland were originally written by Lewis Carroll and the adaptation in the game (American McGee's Alice) was created by American McGee. I do not own either of them, however, the plotline is of my own.

1. Prologue

"Another doctor will come today, another white coat and another set of probing questions. It seems that no matter how I cooperate, they still will not allow us to leave," Alice sighed and dragged her thumb gently over the coarse ears of her stuffed rabbit. "Though I do so love Wonderland, it tires me to repeat myself so much…"

As would be expected of it, the toy rabbit simply laid in the crook of her arm, its beady eyes fixed on the ceiling. The young woman smiled bitterly down at its blank expression before she placed it gently on her bed. "Excuse me for been sour, but I wish you would at least speak to me in return. It isn't as if you can't."

The first raindrops crashed against the cell window as Alice walked over to the door, sliding her delicate feet into her favourite pair of boots. It was only a matter of time before Matron knocked on her door, the handles of a wheelchair clenched between two meaty fists.

She quickly brushed herself down as the rhythmic click of the Matron's boots echoed down the hallway, the infernal squeaking of the wheelchair following suite in the asylum chorus.

"All this tune needs now is a screaming child," she mused bitterly to herself as the noise gradually slowed to a halt near her room. After a year of been held prisoner in the wretched place, Alice knew what to do to make a good impression…

The sound of metal against metal pulled the girl out of her slight daydream, indicating Matron was unlocking the door. As it swung open, Alice took a graceful step backwards out of reflex.

The colossal woman, Matron, walked briskly into the room, (which surprised Alice, as she wasn't expecting Matron to actually fit through the door) scanning the floor and the bed silently before shoving Alice towards the wheelchair outside.

And, with a slight incline of her head, Alice obeyed, climbing into the wheelchair and staring down at her boots. "Can't someone save me?"
