From the enigmatic gates of time, I watch over them. One exhibits the academic discipline of a scholar, despite her young age. Another is an outgoing free spirit with shining aspirations of stardom. A shrine maiden with physic powers has the innate fiery stubbornness of Sailor Mars. A young woman who has already lost so much has a genuine warmth and smile under the hard shell she has adopted to survive. But mostly I watch her. At first glance there is nothing remarkable about this girl, she does little but eat, sleep, and cry. She is quite lazy, though not unintelligent, and does not excel at anything. Yet she is a fiercely loyal friend and would do anything for those she loves. She radiates purity and kindness, laughter bubbles from her as often as tears. This more than her golden hair tied in the unmistakable odangos of the Moon Kingdom tells me that she is the one. My princess.

And so from my post I observe these five, who do not yet know each other nor the destiny which awaits them. Part of me wants to keep them ignorant of that destiny, for I know better than anyone the burden it carries. The truth is that even though these bright radiant girls know nothing of me, I know them. I have watched over them since their rebirth, these five, and consequently have grown to care for them deeply. I, guardian of time and space, who has not spoken to another living soul since Queen Serenity assigned me my duty countless millennia ago, have come to regard these girls as my family, almost as my children. And as any mother would, I wish I could somehow spare them from the pain and suffering they must soon endure. Already the Dark Kingdom is stirring. Very shortly I will have to do as Queen Serenity instructed and allow for these girls who have led such miraculous ordinary lives to become defenders of Earth. Will they still laugh, smile, dream after they cross that bridge? Will I take that away from them? I can do nothing, nothing but wait for them to cross.
