"Goodbye, Peter," she said, tears glimmering in her eyes. "You won't forget me, will you?"
"Forget you?" he asked quietly. "Never." Her fave cracked into a smile and he couldn't help but smile back. And then it was time for him to go. He couldn't stay any longer without wanting to stay forever. He turned from her window and jumped, taking flight into the night, cold air whipping around him.
He looked back once and saw her silhouette in the window, watching him. She grew smaller and smaller by the second. It was then that he knew his words were absolutely true. He could never forget her. She was his biggest adventure.
As he watched, she turned away from the window. Back to her life, and to her family. The only thing he could think about was how big of an adventure having a family would be. Having a life. A family like hers was the greatest adventure of all. The more distance he put between him and his latest adventure, the more he realized he had nothing left. Wendy and her brothers were back home. So were the boys, his lost boys, who preferred growing up instead of an eternity of fun. He hadn't even talked to Tink since her betrayal…
"Eternal youth, but no one to share it with."
And just like that, all the feelings Peter had buried inside of him, feelings that only Wendy ever believed he had, came bubbling up inside of him. The wall came crashing down, filling his mind with everything he ever purposely forgotten. Before he could stop it, Peter was falling out of the sky like a shot Wendy bird.
For the first time in years, Peter Pan was not thinking happy thoughts.
When he awoke, he wasn't lying on the hard streets of London like he would have expected, but rather a wooden floor. He slowly sat up, he realized he was moving quickly through the air.
He was on a ship.
A flying ship.
Impossible, Peter thought. Hook was dead, wasn't he?
"Well, well, well," a deep voice drawled from behind him. Peter quickly snapped his head toward the source of the voice. "If it isn't the great Peter Pan."
A/N Thank you Isabelle for making this prologue a lot better than I could ever imagine. You're the best.
