Love Takes a Holiday (continued)
"When they return, I will send Leandra back to the village. They are free now, isn't that what you wanted to hear from me?" Hephaestus asked, turning towards her.
"No, what I want, is an answer to my question. Do you love me?" she asked softly.
"For centuries," he answered without hesitation.
Aphrodite smiled softly, her eyes sparkling. Then she leaned forward and kissed him.
Hephaestus woke from his dream and sighed. How often had he dreamt of her over the centuries? Why did Morpheus have to be so cruel?! Dangling the one thing he wanted more than anything in all of Olympus in front of his eyes each night? Only to have it disappear when Apollo drove his chariot across the sky. He groaned, sitting up and putting his face in his hands. This one had seemed so real...
"Hephy, are you okay?"
Hephaestus stiffened when he heard that sweet voice. Was he still dreaming? This couldn't possibly be real, could it?
The god of the forge turned towards the voice and his breath caught in his throat at the vision before him. The goddess of love lay propped up against his pillows, her usual pink attire quite obviously absent. Her luscious body bared to his adoring gaze.
"Did Morpheus send you a nightmare?" she asked, moving to sit behind him and resting her chin on his shoulder.
"No, but Zeus has surely sent me an angel," he answered.
"Aww, I love you too Heph," Dite said, kissing him sweetly. "Now, come back to bed. Apollo isn't due to drive the sun across the sky for another couple of hours. And you and I have centuries of loving to make up for."
Hephaestus smiled and let his goddess pull him back down onto the bed.
