Smitchie. God, campers had already come up with a "celebrity couple name" for them. It had only been a week, for crying out loud!

Tess Tyler was not one of those people. She, personally, hated the whole idea of a "celebrity couple name" - for anybody. Her parents got one before they even met; fan girls for both had decided back in '89 that TJ Livingston, beautiful singer, would be perfect with Steve Tyler, lead guitarist and vocalist for some hotshot rock band (that in Tess' opinion, never should have gotten together in the first place. Seriously, it wasn't music - it was noise). So SteeJ was born.

And besides, what did Mitchie have that Tess didn't? In both girls' minds, nothing.

To Tess, Mitchie was still working in the kitchen, butchering songs like she did meat for hamburgers. And when she wasn't busy with whatever duty called her, she was off with Shane. Usually on the lake, rowing their stupid green canoe around in circles and laughing at something that Tess is sure isn't even funny, if it came out of Mitchie's mouth.

To Mitchie, she was just the kitchen girl. The girl with flour in her hair, the one off to the side with a friend - just one - and the girl that looked at girls like Tess with insane amounts of jealousy etched into her features. To her, Tess was the kind of girl with glitter or something of the sort injected into her veins with a sparkly needle. With huge diamonds and an even bigger ego, Tess walked around like she owned the place - and to Mitchie, she did.

So why couldn't Shane Gray realize that Tess is the one that he needs - the one that he's destined for - and not Mitchie? Mitchie, the kitchen help versus Tess, the one with sparkles in her veins. The magazine she read at lunch even said that Tess and Shane would be perfect, for God's sake!

But there she was, second place to everything. But she'd wait.

Now usually, Tess doesn't wait for anything. She cuts lines at clubs, jumps to the front at Starbucks. So she sure as hell would never wait for a boy.

But it was him.

And for him, she'd wait.
