"Woah there, someone might have had too much." His voice fluttered to her ears as Clary struggled to stand straight. Trying to put on heels after four... or five... or was it eight drinks, was not a good idea. Her head felt fuzzy but she had finally managed to get the older Lightwood to open up to her. Jace left them... to do evil things with the father that abandoned him and that left Clary and Alec all by themselves, with no sense of direction.

Night had fallen hours ago and yet, they were still up, still talking and still drinking. Unfortunately Alec was only slightly buzzed and Clary had a suspicion that was because of all the nights he spent at Magnus'.

"You know, how dare he!" She said, throwing one of her pathetic heels across the room. The infernal device was getting her nowhere tonight. "He runs off with -" Hiccup. "- Valentine and leaves YOU behind." She slouched back into the comfortable leather seat. "How rude."

She looked up to see Alec, just sitting across from her, drink in hand but deep in thought. The guy didn't have resting bitch face so much as resting I'm-going-to-kill-someone-and-light-their-house-on-fire face. She feared this might have been a bad idea.

Probably.

"You're drunk." He said.

"Thank you, Captain Obvious."

Alec glared at her. "Maybe you should go to bed. Jace would kill me if-"

"Jace?!" She stood up, then realized how much of a mistake that was and nearly toppled over to one side, blood rushing to her head.

Alec caught her by her elbow, his senses and instincts clearly still in tact.

She hated him for that.

"Jace is a pig-headed-no-good-rotten-shadowhunter, who only cares about himself ... and his reflection." She turned around and looked for her wine glass, muttering. "Let's not forget his reflection."

"Looking for this?" Alec held up a quarter-full wine glass and tilted the thing back and forth, all tick-tock.

Clary tried to get it back, she really did, but her brain worked hard against her and she couldn't make out which one was the real wine glass and which ones were the evil twins, hard to catch.

And then Alec surprised her by handing her the glass back and raising his own to her's. "To douchebags." he said. "And to guys that break your heart," he bowed his head to her. His eyes lost focus. "And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to let him go through a portal with a raving lunatic."

She clinked her glass against his. "To being the only girl who can say she doesn't know where her boyfriend went because he went through a mystical portal to nowhere." She said, taking the last swig before plopping back down on the couch. She watched as Alec took a seat next to her, draping a blanket over her as he did.

She surprised him by laying her head on his shoulder.

"You know, Clary -" Alec began, looking down he stopped short. Clary Fray was fast asleep on his shoulder. Chuckling to himself, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, reading the alert of a new text message from a certain warlock.

Please don't tell me she puked on my Persian rug. -M

A deep rumble in his chest and he nearly choked on his own last swig of wine. Setting the glass down, Alec replied quickly.

Nope. Fast asleep. -A

Not even a minute later.

Good. Does she feel better? -M

I don't think she'll be better til we find Jace. -A

Hitting send, Alec pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling the drowsiness of the alcohol kick in. His phone chimed not a second later.

Well, I'm on my way back. Leave her on the couch and I hope to see you at least half naked in my bed when I get home. ;) -M

Smiling to himself, Alec set his phone down and gently laid the fast asleep Clary on the couch and headed to the bedroom to do as he was told.
