"No dad, this isn't the life I want to live. This isn't normal, hunting things that people usually try to get away from."

"So is that it? You're just going to leave like that?"

"Yes, call me a coward or whatever you want, but I'm leaving. I'm tired of the cheap motels and the nasty diner food. I am tired of putting my life in the line every night. I want to leave a normal life, dad, and this is far from it."

Sam gathered his few belongings and put them in a ruffle bag. He picked you his laptop off of the table and put it in his backpack and walked out the door. He didn't dare look back for fear of returning and changing his mind.

Throughout the whole fight Dean sat in a chair in the corner of the room waiting for the fight to calm down like they usually do. His father and Sam got into fights like this all the time. It was the same every time. Sam would complain about something to dad and dad would reprimand him for being lazy. Sam would then talk about having a normal life, trying to convince him that someone else should do our job. He would usually threaten to leave. Dean never thought that he would see the day when Sam actually left. Dean sat quietly in the corner watching Sam's retreating form walk out of the door.

As the realization of all that had just happened dawn on him, he runs out the room, ignoring the furious cries of his father.

"Let him go, Dean!"

Dean couldn't let him go. It was his younger brother and Dean couldn't risk something happening to him. Dean had looked over Sam for 18 years, watching him grow up from a newborn baby. After their mother died when Sam was 6 months, he promised to never let anything happen to his baby brother. He was determined to keep that promise.

Dean catches Sam walking along the side of the highway, head bent over, hands in his pockets.

"Sam!" Sam ignored Dean's calling and kept walking. Dean finally caught up with him. He grabbed the back of his jacket, forcing Sam to look at him.

"What is it Dean? " the younger brother asked in annoyance. All Sam wanted to don't was to get as far away as possible.

"Are you really leaving?"Asked a depressed Dean. Sam simply nodded his head and tried to continue walking away until Dean grabbed him again.

Dean would never say it but He really didn't want Sam to go. He was starting to get used to Sam's nerdyness. That were many a nights when they would stay up arguing about what they were hunting. In the end, Sam was always right. Dean suddenly got angry.

"After everything dad and I have done for you, you decide to actually leave? You know what? You are a coward, and we'll probably be better without you anyway! Do you really think that it's that unfair that you never got to have a normal life? Newsflash! Neither did I! Newsflash! Neither does dad! He does everything He can to make sure that we are alive and nit vulnerable. Is this how you repay him? By walking off? Coward! Well in that case, leave. Go live your apple pie life. "

"Look I'm sorry..."

"Sorry isn't enough. Sorry doesn't get the job done. What is there to be sorry about huh? Leaving or for being a coward?"

"I am not a coward Dean! Just because I don't want to end my life early?"

"Exactly! ''

Sam shakes his head and gives a half smile to Dean.

"Sorry bro, I'm doing this for myself."

Dean was angry now. He reeled back his fist and punched Sam right in the face. Sam stumbled backward, trying to piece together what had just happened. He looked up to see Dean's retreating figure, heading back to the hotel.
