Clint turned to his passenger, hands firmly gripping the wheel, his knuckles turning white a he looked over in worry. He had so many things on the tip of his tongue he wanted to say, but none of it seemed right. So he looked back to the winding mountain roads of Sokovia, letting Wanda have some silence for a little while longer. He couldn't imagine losing someone so close as a twin.
The little gas light indicator kicked on the dash of the tiny diesel car they were in and he pulled into the nearest station which luckily was only a couple of miles up the road. He really didn't want to get stuck up on the too thin roads, especially on a blind turn. Clint slid out and walked around the car, then turned back and tapped on her window.
She rolled it down and looked up at him, wiping fresh tears from her eyes. "Da?"
He smirked lightly at her insistence on speaking Romanian. "Buna." He said in response, since he only knew a few words. "I'm going inside to get some food for the road… what would you like?"
She thought about it and sniffled. "I… I don't know…"
"Hey, hey…" He shushed and put a gentle hand on her shoulder. "It's okay, sweetheart. You want to come in with me?"
Wanda just nodded. Sure, might as well.
Clint opened her door and offered a hand to help her out.
She took it and looked up at him. This was such a change from how she'd been treated, the only other one to do so was Pietro. She wasn't sure exactly how this made her feel since she was so numb from losing her other half.
They walked in the small shop and started down an isle. Wanda hugged herself and looked around at all the colorful packages on the shelves, unsure if she could make a decision right now, even as simple as picking out something to eat. She started to feel frustrated and just followed closely behind Clint. He noticed this and turned to her.
"Hey, look!" He took a cheerful approach in hopes of distracting her. "I've had these chips before! They're pizza flavor." He chuckled, picking up the bag of hoop shaped snack food. "You'll love them." He smiled and handed them to her.
She raised her eyebrows and took the bag, then pressed her lips together.
He spotted something else form his travels and picked it up. "Oh boy, check this out! You ever have a Kinder Egg before? I brought these back for my kids… they loved them." He handed her one and kept going down the isle.
Wanda took the egg and blinked. She thought it was strange that he would pick out something for her that his children liked. She felt a small smile creep onto her face briefly and started following Clint around the store again.
Clint grabbed a few more things and some drinks then went to the counter to pay. He turned to Wanda when she met him at the counter and set her items down. "You'll like this too… It's some kinda lime pop." He smiled and payed the clerk, then they walked back to the car with their bag of goodie for the trip.
Wanda climbed in the car, feeling strangely better than when she exited the car earlier.
Clint glanced at her before driving off, noticing that she seemed in slightly better spirits, a ghost of a smile on her face.
