This is the story of Phoenix after Matt Engarde is found innocent.

The title was inspired by Trouble's original title, "Spider Webs".

Oh no, I see

A spider web is tangled up with me

"This court finds the defendant, Matt Engarde, not guilty."

And I lost my head

And thought of all the stupid things I'd said

"And just like that, the case came to an end."

Oh no, what's this?

A spider web and I'm caught in the middle

The defense lawyer had won the case but lost everything and everyone that mattered to him.

So I turn to run

And thought of all the stupid things I'd done

"I ran away from the courtroom...and wandered the streets alone."

And I never meant to cause you trouble

And I never meant to do you wrong

"I never saw Maya again."

And I, well if I ever caused you trouble

And oh, no, I never meant to do you harm

"I heard the verdict of Ms. Andrews' trial a few days later. She was found guilty, of course."

Oh no, I see

A spider web and it's me in the middle

The whole case was fresh in his mind. The weight of the world never left his shoulders. The pressure was unbearable; the consequences, even much so.

So I twist and turn

But here am I in my little bubble

Realizing that at that point, nothing can make things right, he retreated to a place where no one could find him, not even himself.

Singing that I never meant to cause you trouble

And I never meant to do you wrong

And I, well if I ever caused you trouble

And oh, no, I never meant to do you harm

Guilt. Regret. Frustration. Despair. Phoenix was riddled with these emotions all at once.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." These were words he kept to himself because he knew no one could forgive him since he couldn't even begin to forgive himself.

They spun a web for me

"I've let them down. All of them. Friends and rivals alike were counting on me to put an end to this whole mess..."

They spun a web for me

"...but the 'miracle' never happened. Maybe it was never meant to. Because a 'miracle' is something that doesn't exist."

A single tear rolled down his pale cheek and disappeared into the deadly Eagle River far below him. Shortly afterwards, Phoenix followed.
