Wow! I'm already on my third story. This idea has been bothering me. It's been whispering in my ear "Write me, write me." And finally, I'm getting the chance to write it. I might write a companion story for it. So, without further delay, let me introduce you to my newest story, Hazel!

Hazel

By silveremerald8

Hazel eyes would be the death of her.

His, to be exact.

Lily had seen hazel eyes before, but there was something different about his.

They looked exactly like hazel eyes should. His, in particular were quite beautiful.

Green and gold were always fighting for control over his irises. They swam around in a pool of caramel brown.

They expressed many emotions. The emotion in his eyes depended on what his mood was.

If he was happy, they would be carefree and joyful.

Whenever he was sad, they were dim.

If he was angry, they would harden.

Whenever he was around fire, the firelight would illuminate the gold in his eyes.

That's when Lily loved his eyes best.

She didn't know that she had not fallen in love with just his eyes, but she had also fallen in love with the owner as well.

When she finally realized it, it hit her like a bolt of lightning.

She knew she'd have to ask him out.

Then, fate put them together as Potions partners. Slughorn had told them that these were their permanent partners.

She would nervously twist the hem of her shirt while contemplating whether or not to ask him to Hogsmeade during each lesson.

Every time, her Gryffindor courage had failed.

One cold December day, she got the feeling that it was now or never.

During Potions that day, Slughorn instructed them to brew Amortentia. How ironic.

She fiddled with her hair as she prepared to ask him. It was a simple question, but she repeated it in her head over and over.

He went to retrieve a few ingredients from the cabinet in the back. When he'd returned, she'd blurted out the question and blushed deeply.

He'd been startled, and almost dropped the ingredients. She muttered "Never mind" and shielded her face with her hair, looking flustered, and did not speak for the rest of the lesson.

As soon as it was over, she'd bolted from the classroom, leaving him to clean up.

He caught up to her quickly. Hazel eyes shining, he told her his answer.

And she had whooped with joy. And she had hugged him, seen the way his eyes were brimming with excitement, and skipped all the way to Charms, immensely pleased.

The date went successfully. He was everything she had dreamed of. He was practically her Prince Charming.

Then he'd asked her to the Christmas Ball. She said yes.

His hazel eyes had glowed when he saw her walking gracefully down the stairs from the girls' dormitory. She'd felt happy.

At the ball, he danced with her. He asked her to be his girlfriend. She had agreed wholeheartedly.

He'd led her to the gardens, where they cuddled together under the stars. That's when he told her that he loved her, eyes anticipating her reaction.

She had been shocked. It took her a few minutes to process the confession. He'd said that she didn't have to reciprocate it, but he just wanted to let her know.

She had stared at him for a moment, and then kissed him square on the mouth. He'd responded instantly. She tried to pour her affection for him into that one kiss.

She broke the kiss, and told him that she loved him too.

He whispered softly in her ear that he couldn't be more delighted.

They sat under the stars for what felt like eternity, occasionally kissing, and telling each other stories and secrets.

Everyone knew by the next day that he and Lily were dating.

What made Lily the happiest, apart from confessing their love for each other, was the fact that his hazel eyes glowed for her, and only her. They made her feel special.

Now Lily felt that hazel eyes wouldn't be the death of her. They actually gave her life.

James Potter's, to be exact.
