It was a summer evening, and Max and 99 were eating at a new restaurant in town called the Vineyard. While they were there, a thunderstorm came through. It was raining heavily as the two of them stood by the front door, ready to leave.

"If only you parked closer to the restaurant, Max."

"Sorry about that, 99."

"Not your fault."

"We can just wait here until the rain lets up." At that moment, it rained even harder. "While might be a little while! And I forgot my umbrella, too!"

99 suddenly smiled. "I've got a wild idea, Max: Let's walk in the rain!"

"Walk in the rain? With our clothes on?"

"It's just water; we can get them dry cleanned." She slipped her sandals off, picked them up, and stepped out the door. "This feels nice! C'mon, Max, be a little crazy!"

"All right. But I'd better take my shoes off; the water will ruin my shoe phone!"

He did this—leaving his socks on—and stepped out with her.

They walked slowly in the rain. Max was skittish at first, but this went away, as he got wetter.

A mud puddle had formed in the grass. Seeing this, 99 walked into it! She splashed around girlishly for a bit, then walked out.

"How's the mud?"

"Wonderful, Max!"

At last, they went to their car. They got in and drove home.

At their house, they got out of the car and went in.

"Now, you stand right there, and don't move until I tell you!"

"Yes, 99."

He stood just inside the entryway, while she walked to the bathroom. A few seconds later, she came back with towels. They dried themselves off.

"I must admit, that was fun, 99."

"I told you! You should lighten up more, Max."

"You're right. And it gives me a little idea?"

"Yes, Max?"

"Why don't we change into dry pajamas. . ."

"Yes?"

"Have a couple nightcaps. . . "

"Uh huh?"

"And discuss some of the cases we're following!"

This disappointed her! "Well. . . OK, if you'd like."

He suddenly put his wet arms around her wet shoulders and gave her a wet kiss! "Just kidding, 99-Darling!"

"Maxy-Baby!"
