Teresa watched Jane crushing the DVD with his bare hand.
Her eyes followed the remaining parts from his fingers to the concrete floor.
The shards attracted her attention, keeping her look fixed on the reflections they were making with the last glimpse of sunlight, that was shining through the filthy window.
After what felt like an eternity Lisbon regained control over her body.
Slowly she began to stand up and making her way towards Patrick, one step hesitantly in front of the other.
He didn't seem to notice.
He was completely lost in his thoughts, staring though the dirty glass into nothing.
Ignoring the fear of rejection Teresa reached for his hand.
While interlacing their fingers she felt a sticky warm substance running down Patricks palm.
Already knowing what it was, she turned his hand in hers to take a closer look at his injuries.
Wiping away his blood she could make out a cut in his inner hand.
It wasn't deep enough to be serious, but it still looked painful and needed to be taken care of.
Jane had faced her by now and was studying her every move.
Lisbon opened her mouth to say the first words after what felt like hours of silence.
"Sit down."Even if it was a command, the words leaving her mouth were spoken with such tenderness and softness that it seemed more like a comforting share of kindness and affection.
Patrick did as he was told and sat down.
"I'll be right back." She assured him, while moving into one corner of the attic, watering a handkerchief in the sink and grabbing the first aid box on her way back to him.
She cleaned his cut with the moist tissue and bandaged his hand.
Gazing up at him she gently stroked his knuckles.
A hoarse "Thank you" made its way out of his dry throat and caused her lips to form a slight smile.
"Anything for you Jane..." She repeated his words from weeks ago.
That earned her a halfhearted chuckle from Patrick that turned into a sub and made her realize how little self control he had left.
Without even thinking about it she rose from her kneeling position and locked him in a tight embrace.
The sight of the broken man in her arms made her heart ache end brought tears to her eyes too.
They stayed like that for hours.
At first Teresa couldn't quite understand his murmured words, but he kept repeating them like a mantra until she finally caught the whole sentence.
A sad smile on her lips she said quietly " I love you too!"
They both moved their heads towards each other and met in a searing, desperate but still loving kiss.
Van Pelt covered her mouth with one hand, to keep herself from subbing out loud.
She turned around and made her way down the stairs.
Tears clinging to her eyes as she replayed the most heartbreaking scene she had ever watched.
