This is set in the same universe as my Doctor Who crossover, Dragons and fire and big blue boxes, however it's not necessary to read that first. There is a teensey homage to my favorite show in one line of this, but it's blink-and-you-miss-it, so I'm putting this up seperately.
They're your family.
James, the goofball older brother with a love for Quidditch and a complete ineptitude with Potions, Al, who spent nearly his whole life trying to claw his way out from under the family's shadow, only to find his place is in the Muggle world, where all his messy hair and green eyes do is attract girls.
Mum, always there to offer support, kiss skinned knees and stand in the rain for two hours until you can fly better than that git Flint who stole your broom and Dad, who tells the best stories and always has a spare Chocolate Frog around, acting befuddled every time his face pops up on the card.
But they're also James who called you slimy when the Hat put you in Slytherin, and Al who stopped speaking to you for two weeks when it came out about you and Teddy, Mum who never could hide it that well that she has no idea what to do with you, and Dad whose eyes always hold a glint of terrible loss when he thinks no one is looking, or the one time when Teddy let his real appearance-the warm brown eyes and heart shaped face-show through.
And you? You're just Lily Luna, burdened with two names you could never live up to, so you stopped trying.
The girl with a perpetual tan and a bad case of freckles from spending every summer chasing dragons, the one who stole Teddy from prettyspecialperfect Victoire (even though she had already twisted his poor Hufflepuff heart past breaking), and the one who was missing for two weeks one winter and returned looking two years older with the universe spinning in your dragon eyes.
And yeah, you may not be perfect [far from it, babygirl]but neither are they.
