Stein sat in his darkened laboratory. The only source of light came from his cigarette, which illuminated his face, making the shadows around him seem even more terrifying. He could feel the insanity spreading all through him. He could feel is pulsing steadily in his veins. It grew stronger and stronger every day. There was no was he could stop it, no one to talk to. Yet there had been one person who understood. She knew fully and completely what insanity was. Stein pushed the thought out of his head. Medusa was deadly. He had to kill her. Besides, he didn't believe in love. He could never love anyone, even a person so like him.
But as he sat in the darkness his mind kept on wandering back to her face. She had offered him something in her dying breaths. Perhaps he should have...no, that was just the insanity talking. Stein inhaled deeply, the taste of tobacco filling his mouth. He wasn't used to emotions like these. Even though she had made several attempts on his life he felt a strange longing to see her again. Maybe they could talk. Have a real conversation, not the wild arguments and debates they had before. She was a nurse, she'd probably be interested in his experiments...The insanity's taken me over already! Stein scoffed. Medusa's gone anyways. I made sure of that. He sighed a final time and returned to his work. Shinigami-Sama was expecting a lot from him and time was running out.
