It's Monday, I sigh. The first one after summer, in fact. Then I look up. He is coming towards me: the sweetest, kindest, absolutely cutest guy in the whole school district, state, maybe even country. Tch, make that the whole dern planet. Every , including me, has had a crush on him since he moved here. His name? You have to ask? Guillaume (a/n pronounced gee-ome) Acton. Ahh . . .
Erm. Ahem. Anyway, pretending not to notice, I look up at the campus clock. There's a glare, and I sneeze.
When I open my eyes, I am no longer on a high school campus eating lunch. I'm in the middle of a lush, green jungle. I hear a strange, but oddly familiar, cry. I whorl around, and there, on a fallen log about ten yards from me, is a Gukko bird.
I gape in astonishment, and reach up to rub my eyes to make sure I'm not seeing things. I freeze. My hands are purple. I look around, and see a small, still pool of water a few yards away. I start slowly towards it, almost afraid of what I'll see.
I look in at my reflection and gape. A midget-sized with a long dark purple ponytail going down to her thighs and multi-purple-hued armor stares back. My chest and pelvis armor are sparkling silver, and the flares on my arms and legs are edged in silver, too.
It suddenly sinks in that I've become a Bionicle. I've always been a fan. Pff; actually, make that a maniac. I know the story from the absolute beginning, down to a lot of the exact things the Toa said and did. So basically I'm nowhere near as freaked out as a normal person would have been. It's more like, Hey, cool, I'm a Bionicle! Let's see what I can do!
I feel something weird and pull a cool-looking staff out of my back. I twirl it experimentally. The handle is a dark royal purple, almost black, with lavender swirls. One end gets lighter as it curls into a snail-shell shape. On each side of the snail shell is a sky blue rhombus gem set in silver. The other end is capped in a shiny lavender conch shell with an opening big enough to hold a softball.
I get an urge and whap the swirl end to the dirt. The ground trembles
"Oops. Won't do that again unless I have too."
Getting a strange idea, I point the same end at it, and will the water to form a short pillar. It does. Freeze! It does. I point my staff at a pile of leaves and concentrate. They whirl up into a chaotic minitwister. As an afterthought, I will the pillar of ice to melt.
I concentrate again and a stone skips over the surface of the water. I grin. I have all the powers of the original Toa! Though probably to a lesser extent.
I jump as ominous thunder rumbles overhead. I scramble up the nearest tree and gasp. Those clouds do NOT look natural.
I head away from the darkest patch, trying to get ou tof the forest before the storm hits. I have no desire to be electracuted.
Lightning flashes down, and someone screams. I pause for a moment, then head toward the scream at top speed. "With great power . . ."
Stupid Spider-Man movie!
