Author's Note: My first and only Fairly OddParents fanfic. Actually written a year prior to uploading it here, it was a gift for a friend, and I've just sort of rediscovered it. I thought I'd share it with others, finally. :3

No warnings; just cute, short & sweet fluff. Thanks for reading!

Toaster Love

The toaster was important. He had just told her so in no uncertain terms, shrieking it at her and making their young ward stir in his sleep. So she shushed her green-haired husband and told herself that yes, if he thought it was important, then it was important... even if it was a toaster.

Long-suffering. That was one of those big, bookish words Wanda had read once and stored away, and it was only at times like these that she recalled it. She might call herself long-suffering, yes... especially if he kept talking so loudly in the middle of the night!

They often spent strange hours hovering protectively near their charge; although they were part of many unforgettable adventures, Wanda mostly enjoyed and appreciated the simpler times when all she had to do was bask in the warm affection of her bizarre little 'family.' She assumed it was that motherly side she was supposed to have that made her so love just watching the peaceful slumber of a child.

But nights like these--when Cosmo simply would not be quiet, would not stop being himself for half a moment--she could hardly find peace at all. He continued to babble about the toaster, which he had magicked wings onto, and then proceeded to tend to its feathers as if he were pruning a pet bird. After a while, against her better judgment, Wanda sighed and asked, "What are you doing?"

A cheerful grin was the instant reply. "Fixing the toaster!"

"Was it... broken?"

"No, I mean I'm fixing it for you. See?"

He held the appliance out to her, showing a shiny silver exterior on which he had sloppily painted a big pink heart. The toaster's wings fluttered in time to a tiny, music-box-style song that played from the inner coils. Wanda blinked in surprise before asking tentatively, "A gift for me?"

"Yep!" Cosmo answered merrily. "Do you like it?"

The toaster flew around her head twice before Wanda said, "Of course! But... why a toaster?"

"Because it heats up the bread like you light up my life! It's toaster love!"

And that, Wanda remembered, was why she put up with all of Cosmo's strange little quirks and habits. That was the kind of logic that brought her happiness. That was... toaster love.
