~Hello all a little background to this story, for awhile I've wanted to make a story cover Tonks' school years so I'm hoping it goes okay. Please review!~

Hogwarts Castle 1984,

As the first year students were led into the Great Hall the older students watched some laughing at how small they all seemed while others were smiling or just watching bored but everyone was surprised to see that among the small new students there was one girl who was just slightly smaller than the others and her hair was practically glowing pink as she smiled looking around clearly not fazed in the slightest by the wetness of her robes from the rain, the first years gathered near the head table facing a wooden stool that held a old and tattered hat on its top.

One by one the first years were called by their names and placed in their houses though it was easy to see most of them were waiting for the pink haired girl to be sorted, after some time only a handful of the kids remained.

"Nymphadora Tonks."

The pink haired girl looked up at her name and walked up to the stool where she sat down and after a moment the hat was placed on her head covering her eyes as the sounds around her vanished.

"A loyal soul, always quick to defend, not afraid of anything when friends are involved hmmm a long blood line behind you but you're not part of it...best be HUFFLEPUFF!"

The hat was lifted and a tingle along Dora's hair line told her that her hair had changed and by the gasps of nearly everyone around her she guessed right as she went to the table sitting beside a red head that had been placed in Hufflepuff as well both smiling as they watched the remainder of the kids be sorted including the red head boy she'd walked in with though he was sorted into Gryffindor with his brother, once everyone was sorted and the head master gave his speech the plates magically filled with foods of all sorts and everyone began to eat.

After a bit there was an eruption of giggles from the end of the Hufflepuff table where Dora was sitting with not only Crissy, the red head she'd met on the train, but also a few older second year girls who were all laughing as she made her nose into a pig snout then a duck bill, suddenly something hit her in the back of the head making her turn around her nose now normal as she looked at the Slytherin table behind her where a dark haired girl was smirking evilly holding half a roll that had been torn in two, the other half being most likely what hit her head.

"They let a freak like you in here? My mother told me about your mother big stain of the family tree for marrying a muggle born, sounds about right that a freak like you would come from it."

Dora's hair flared red and she growled at the girl getting to her feet but stopped as Crissy grabbed her arm.

"Don't, she's just trying to annoy you."

Dora looked at her for a moment before with a huff she sat back down turning her back on the dark haired girl, after dinner they were on their way to the common room where she caught a glimpse of the girl that had made fun of her leavening with her house.

The next morning at breakfast while discussing her schedule with Crissy and Nikki, one of the second year Hufflepuffs, when suddenly a brown owl landed in front of her a letter in its beak, she took it and held her cup of pumpkin juice for it to drink before it flew off with the other owls that had come in.

"I got a box of sweets from my mum, what'd you get Dora?"

Dora shrugged and opened the letter reading it over with a sigh as she read her mother's congraduations for making Hufflepuff along with her father's congratulations.

"Just a letter."

She set the letter on the table and dug into a new plate of eggs.

"Lose something pipsqueak?"

Dora looked over her shoulder and at the dark haired Slytharin girl who was holding a wrapped box in her hand and on the side in her mother's handwriting was her name. Dora stood up fists clutched.

"Give that back!"

The girl smirked shaking the box to hear the contents inside.

"Hmm why don't you make me."

Dora growled getting ready to draw her wand when Niki stood between them snatching the box from the dark haired girl.

"Leave her alone Malissa go pick on someone else!"

The dark haired girl, Malissa, crossed her arms looking over Niki before flipping her hair and leaving. Once she was gone Niki turned to Dora handing her the box.

"Don't let her get to you she thinks she's hot stuff cause her dad works at the ministry."

Dora took the box with a small smile.

"Thanks Niki, but what's the big deal my folks work at the ministry too...well Mum dose dad runs a muggle shop in London selling books."

Niki smiled as they sat back at the table and Crissy helped Dora open the box.

"That sounds interesting you should take us by there next summer. Oh wow is that a signed Weird Sisters shirt?!"

Dora smiled removing the neatly folded purple shirt with designed faded gold letters spelling out the band name and across the shirt where autographs. Under the shirt were a few boxes of sweets and a photo that was upside down.

"Yep! Mum sent me my favorite one!"

She handed the shirt to Crissy who looked it over amazed.

"Your only 11 how'd you get this?"

Dora shrugged digging out the box of sweets along with a wrapped piece of her mom's raspberry pie.

"My cousin got it for me about a year ago along with a bunch of records...these things muggles listen to music on."

She explained as a few of the listening kids looked confused. Niki reached into the box taking out the photo looking it over, it was of Dora and a boy with long black hair, a boy with disheveled black hair and glasses and a boy with sandy brown hair and scars across his face but his blue eyes were bright as he smiled. In the picture Dora was on a swing between all of them smiling as the magical picture moved so the boys were waving and laughing as Dora's hair changed color as she waved.

"Which one of these is your cousin Dora?"

Dora looked at the picture and smiled pointing to the boy with the long black hair.

"That one, the others are his best mates. That's James and that's Remus."

She pointed to each in turn but as she finished Niki looked closer at Sirius her eye brows knitting together.

"I've seen him before, recently too maybe about a year ago...what's his name?"

Dora bit the inside of her cheek looking at the half eaten chocolate frog in her hand swallowing what was in her mouth. Thankfully before she was forced to speak the bell rang, she smiled inwardly gathering her things and looking over her schedule.

"Where are you heading Tonks?"

Tonks looked at her schedule then to Niki.

"Transfigurations."

Niki laughed pointing the opposite way they were walking.

"That class is that way, fallow the red head boy and his brother and you'll find it."

Dora smiled and quickly thanked her before hurrying back across the hall tripping over her robes but quickly getting back up and fallowing paces behind the two red headed brothers she'd been instructed to fallow.

Upon finding the room thanks to her unknowing guides she fallowed the young one in and blushed lightly seeing every other pair of desks were already paired by students leaving only the open spot beside the young red haired boy she'd come in with smiling at him as he looked her over and offered his hand.

"Hi, I'm Charlie Weasley."

Dora smiled wider and shook his hand her hair turning red to match his.

"I'm Tonks, just Tonks."
