Spanish Lesson
"Nicky, will you do me a favor?" Jackie asked him one day.
"Sure hon, what?" He responded.
"I'd like you to teach me how to speak Spanish?"
"What? Why?"
"I don't know, I just want to learn and I figure you could teach me instead of me ordering an expensive program, besides, it might be a fun way to spend some alone time together."
"Yeah, I could do that, I'm kind of out of practice though."
"That's alright, I don't need to be extremely fluent, I'd just like to learn a little, although before we start I do have a confession to make."
"What's that?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Well I took Spanish in high school for two years and I was terrible at it, I studied my butt off and barely pulled a B for the class both years, although it was fun and I liked both of my Spanish teachers."
"Well if you got a B you can't be that bad at it."
"You'd be surprised."
Nick laughed.
That night when they got started Nick realized Jackie hadn't been exaggerating, she was terrible at it, he tried not to laugh at her but seeing her with a slight frown of frustration on her face was kind of funny.
"You're cute when you don't know what you are doing." He told her with a grin.
"Let's just forget this, I am horrible."
"No, you're doing a great job." He lied.
"Honey, how can you even say that with a straight face?"
"It'll get easier." He assured her.
After a few more nights of practice Jackie had made a little bit of an improvement, but not much.
Nick was confused, Jackie was one of the smartest people he knew, and for him Spanish was easy, he couldn't understand how Jackie could be so terrible at it.
People just struggle with different things. He told himself.
"Am I getting any better?" She asked.
"Yes." Which technically wasn't an outright lie, she had made a slight improvement, just not a very big one.
"I don't understand why this is so hard? I mean in college I got A's in science, A's and B's in math but yet I struggled so hard with high school Spanish. I mean for crying out loud, you must think I am an idiot."
"Nah, I'd use a lot of words to describe you but that certainly isn't one of them." He assured her.
"Well thank you, but I have to tell you, labor is easier then learning Spanish, and less painful too."
Nick chuckled.
"Are you ready to strangle me yet?" Jackie asked.
"Nope, you are a lot easier to deal with then serial killers are." He told her with a playful smirk.
"Gee, thanks dear."
"Come on, you know I'm only kidding." He said as he pulled her close.
"Let's take a break and have some ice cream." He told her a few seconds later.
"Sounds good to me." Jackie agreed.
He helped her stand up and then they went into the kitchen. She sat down and he went to the fridge and got out two bowls and then got out the ice cream.
"Good?" He asked her when they had started eating.
"Delicious." She told him.
Jackie then decided to get cute, and flirt with Nick, in Spanish, that was a huge mistake.
"Estas gordo." She told him with a flirty smile.
Nick set the spoon filled with ice cream that he was about to stick into his mouth down and looked at her strangely.
"Honey, that's not very nice." He told her, looking hurt.
"What, what do you mean it isn't nice? I just called you handsome." She told him perplexed.
He then burst out laughing.
"No honey, you didn't, guapo is handsome, gordo means fat, you just called me fat, not handsome."
"Oh my god Nicky, I'm sorry, you know I'm terrible at Spanish, I am never flirting with you in a different language again." Jackie said as she turned about ten shades of red.
He leaned over and kissed her cheek.
He loved Jackie more than anything but he had to admit that he highly doubted that she would ever be even close to fluent in Spanish.
The End!
