Remember

Chapter 1: The Window.

Two months. It had been just two months since Karin Maaka had become a vampire. The Blood Ceremony her grandmother came up with had been successful, and they had defeated Winner's grandfather. So she should be happy, right? She finally belonged somewhere. She was no longer a misfit. But no, Karin felt more empty than ever. She couldn't see Kenta anymore. His memories of her had been wiped clean, while she's forced to keep the agonizing memories. Ones she can never go back to, no matter how hard she tries.

"Karin…" Her father knocked cautiously on the door to her bedroom.

"Yes, daddy?" she peaked up from under her covers. Her room was so different now. So much darker. The only light was the pale moonlight from the one window remaining in her room. The one facing Kenta's apartment building at the bottom of the hill their own house was perched on. She had to beg to keep that window. Just so she could watch him come home every day after work. Make sure he was safe. The other windows had been boarded up by Ren.

"W-well, would you like me to teach you more tonight?" He hesitantly opened the door and peaked in. Oh yeah, that's right. Karin's family was teaching her more about the 'Vampire Lifestyle'. She was catching on quickly, it seemed becoming a vampire made her much less of a train wreck, although she was still a bit clumsy. She didn't like it though. None of it was worth having to give up her life; her job, school, her friends, and, of course, Usui. That was the worst part.

"No…I'm fine." She declined, burying herself back under her covers even though she was technically nocturnal now. Her father didn't say anything, but she could've sworn she heard him sigh as he left her room and closed the door. She had been like this ever since everything had happened, after all. They probably all sick of it, this depression. Maybe she should stop hanging on to the past. Maybe she should go enjoy being able to spend time with her family. But she couldn't, no matter how hard she tried, she was always back to this. So why bother even trying anymore? She closed her eyes. Maybe she'd feel better if she slept a bit longer…

Karin woke up in a field, Surrounded by lush green grass and golden dandelions. She stood and brushed dirt from her silky white night gown. "Usui-kun?" she called out, hoping he'd come running to her. No answer. She called again, running through the field. "Usui-kun!" She locked her eyes on the shadowy figure in the distance. It had to be him. "Usui-kun! Usui-kun!" She called out eagerly, running faster and faster to reach the figure. But no matter how far she got, he still looked just as distance. "Kenta…" her shouts were now just whispers, her throat raw from screaming his name. "Usui-ken." she felt herself shaking, she collapsed, tears streaming down her face, "U…su…i." Her voice was barely audible now. She managed to mutter out his voice one last time, and then…

She sat up with a jolt. She'd had another nightmare, and she knew what it meant. No matter how hard she tried, she'd never be able to reach Usui-kun. There time together was done.
