So much had happened, in such short time.

It seemed like yesterday that he had first met her,

Lily Evans.

He had been watching her for a long time

She had never known.

He had fallen in love with her that first time he saw her.

Her and her green eyes.

They had been the best of friends

He had thought that nothing could separate them.

Until they came to Hogwarts.

No one would know the pain that suddenly erupted in his heart when she was placed into Gryffindor.

He had known, deep in his heart, that she would be.

She was too good, much too good, to be placed in Slytherin like him.

But, oh, how he wished he were with her.

He wished that he had been good too.

But it was fate.

Even so, they had done well, extremely well under the circumstances at staying best friends.

He would come and sit at the Gryffindor table during meals, for she would have been hexed if she had come to his.

Not to say that he wasn't hurt by doing so.

He just made sure that she never knew.

She would tell him, worry in her emerald eyes, to not come anymore.

She wouldn't be able to stand the pain.

So he was quiet.

Never saying a word.

He took comfort from her presence beside him.

For she was all he needed.

And he was happy, so happy that she hated that James Potter.

He knew in his heart that he was jealous of him.

Because he had everything.

He was smart,

He was loved,

He was handsome,

He was athletic,

And over everything else,

His family loved him.

What did Severus Snape have?

Nothing.

Nothing except for her.

And that was the one thing that James Potter didn't have.

And he wasn't going to give her up.

Because he loved her.

Then, that fateful day.

That word slipped out of his mouth.

All his life he regretted that moment.

Every second he cried inside.

That single word, that one word, separated them forever.

But still, he took comfort that she hated James Potter.

The day he heard that she had caved in, said yes to a date,

Tore his heart to shreds.

The day they were engaged,

His heart began to shrivel.

The day they had their baby boy,

His heart crumbled.

The day she died,

His heart died.

He didn't want to live without her.

Even when she was in another's arms, she was alive,

Still breathing,

Still living.

When she was gone,

Life lost it's meaning.

And then, eleven years of pain later, James Potter's son, his son, came to school.

Looking exactly like him.

Except for his eyes.

He had her eyes.

Her emerald green eyes.

He vowed then.

To protect those eyes.

And he did,

He did his best,

For her son.

He hated the boy,

But he loved his mother.

And that was reason enough to keep him alive.

That night he died,

After Voldemort's betrayal,

He thought all was lost.

No one would ever know the truth.

Then the boy came.

The boy with her emerald eyes.

He gave him everything he had.

All his most precious memories.

As he drew his last breath, he wanted to see her again.

She would be where he went to, he knew.

But those eyes, just one last glimpse of those eyes-

His eyes.

Her eyes.

Their eyes,

Time was passing,

People were dying,

Severus Snape died,

Looking into those eyes that he had so loved,

Those emerald green eyes,

Of Lily Evans.

After Sirius, Snape's my favorite character in the books...and even after everything, a lot of people hate him, so I thought that I should show them what really happened to Severus Snape, the pain and horror he went through...so here it is...
