Disclaimer: I do not own the vampire diaries and I never shall except for in my dreams.

Caroline walked into her house one day after school. It had been 2 days since she had compelled her mom to forget about what she was. Everything had gone back to normal. Well, as normal as they could get for a teenage vampire with a vampire hunter mom. Caroline sighed. She still thought about the talk she and her mom had had in the Salvatore house. They had bonded that day and Caroline's heart ached when she thought about it and how it didn't matter because her mom couldn't remember any of it. Their first real talk in what seemed like forever and it was like it never happened. The first night they were home was just like every other night they had ever had, she ignored her mom and made a snotty remark every once in awhile. She had cried herself to sleep that night. She could never be completely honest with her mom, not that she had really been before, but now it was different. Her mom hunted people like her. And she knew that if her mom found out again she might not be so lucky. Her mom might kill her. She would have before if she could have. Caroline's eyes watered for a second before she blinked back the tears. She dropped her bag on the floor loudly and then walked up to her room.

"Caroline is that you?" she heard her mom call.

"Who else would it be," she replied in a snotty tone.

"How was school?" her mom asked.

"Fine, now do you mind I have things to do." Her mom didn't reply. Caroline sighed. She didn't want to be a brat anymore, she just wanted that feeling she had gotten from that talk in the Salvatore house. But she had to act normal, like nothing ever happened. And all is right with the world. Sometimes though, she liked to replay her mom's voice in her head telling her how strong and confident she was. She soaked in the warm fuzzy feeling she got from the memory and she felt hope that maybe their relationship could still improve. Maybe even to the point where maybe, someday, she could tell her mom the truth about herself, about everything. She knew that it was a pretty impossible dream but her mom was able to accept her as a vampire once, maybe she could do it again. For now she would start with something small. She walked downstairs to the kitchen where her mom was starting dinner. Her mom glanced over at her and she went to stand beside her.

"Hey," Caroline said.

"Hi," Her mom said, suspicion colouring her tone.

"Need any help?" Liz looked at her daughter with surprise evident on her face.

"Um, alright," she said finally, "Do you want to peel the potatoes?"

"Sure," said Caroline said she picked up a knife and a potato. They worked together in comfortable silence. Caroline smiled, it was a start.

Ok I've been having issues getting this one up for some reason so this is like the 3rd time I've gone through this whole process. Grr -.- So anyhoo I know this is super short, sorry, but I can't seem to write anything much longer than this so... ya you get what you get =P. This idea of Caroline and her mom has been bouncing around my head for a couple of days now so I thought 'Why not?'. I'm a new fan of vampire diaries but I have seen all of the episodes up to date and I am such a fangirl for it now. I'm a fangirl for many things. I think I was born to be a fangirl. Anyhoo reviews would make my day and anyone that does will get a virtual hug or if you're not a hugger, a virtual cookie. =)
