I have thought of 3 episodes that might work for a sequel: The Outsiders Revisited.

1. Synopsis of Sequel: (could be several episodes in one)

Ponyboy wins a full-tuition scholarship for college for the publication of his novel. Sodapop grows to manhood and works on a horse ranch. Darry takes night classes at community college to become an accountant, which he does.

All 3 in turn later guide others in overcoming obstacles while maintaining one's compassion in spite of a harsh and unforgiving world.

2. The Curtis Brothers "Meet" Jason and Tommy

The Curtis brothers and others are gathered at a church fellowship hall where someone reads aloud "Jason and Tommy" from Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul. In this story, 10 year old

Tommy has a cardiopulmonary disease that causes him to fatigue very easily. His 14 year old brother Jason is his truest friend, who only participates on sports teams and in other physical activities if the others involved also include Tommy. The day comes in which 3 friends of Jason's plan to hike to Adam's Canyon. Again, Jason will not go without Tommy and Tommy makes the ultimate sacrifice to please Jason-he collapses and dies on the hike. His last words to Jason are how much he (Tommy) loves him.

A hushed silence hangs over the church fellowship hall as the story book reader culminates her reading.

Ponyboy and Sodapop are both globe-eyed.

Darry has his head on his arm and at first it looks as if he were sleeping, but on closer inspection, all realize he is convulsed with silent yet deep sobs.

On a small number of other occasions, macho though they tried to be, Ponyboy or Sodapop would be moved to tears, with Ponyboy crying when Soda would, and Darry hastening to comfort them both.

This time, though, the tables have been turned. Sodapop massages Darry's broad but heaving shoulders while Ponyboy brushes away Darry's tears and strokes his hair.3. A Visit from Beyond

Darry, 21, enduring a bout with shingles over his left eyebrow (and a blister on his left eyelid), is having nightmares about Ponyboy's earlier fever and delirium, still wishing he hadn't let Ponyboy participate in the rumble when he (Ponyboy) had a fever (even though it is now months later Darry still feels latent guilt over it, compounded by the physical illness of shingles brought on by latent grief and stress)

Then, he has a traumatizing dream about the Curtis brothers' parents dying in the car crash and dreams that they are enduring a slow, agonizing death. Darry thrashes in his sleep, sweating and shaking.

Suddenly, the spirits of the Curtis brothers' deceased mother and father appear in the room, exuding peace and calm, though mortals cannot see them. His bad dreams quickly change to good as he feels the spirit of his mother run her fingers through his hair and caress his back, while the spirit of his father lays an invisible but tangible hand over Darry's left eye and pats Darry on the shoulder.

Darry then dreams he is in a meadow with giant immortal butterflies. With renewed vigor, he runs through the gorgeous place and takes off in flight. He smiles in his sleep as he glides through the air.

He moves next through a sky of singing stars, while his brothers and his buddies flip cartwheels in the air. Finally, he soars through a dawning sky of pink and orange. Still half asleep as he gradually comes to, he pleasantly murmurs to his brothers about his wonderful dream as they serve him breakfast in bed.
