"So it was all lies? The crèche? The intergalactic academy? All … implanted memories?"
Doctor Manhattan nodded. The pair of them stood on the asteroid, his powers supplying an atmosphere as well as a faux center of gravity, so the two of them could stand properly.
"It's so difficult to believe." She extended her squidlike tentacles, turning them to and fro. "And you're my creator … well … my second creator I suppose … because the original one created by that Veidt entity died."
He nodded again. "All life is valuable," he said. "It was wrong to create such a beautiful entity for the sole purpose of destroying her."
She felt a tear run from her eye. "You're … you're so ugly … but I can psi your soul, and it is the most beautiful I have ever imagined … though I suppose the ones I remember were all illusions."
He extended a hand, and one of her tentacles wrapped around it. "I left Earth to create a new form of life, but children need two parents. At least, that's the custom on my planet. I know it's not what you're accustomed to. But I had no need to raise children on my own."
She clicked her beak anxiously. "Do … do your people kiss?"
He smiled, and opened his arms. Stalight in her eyes, she flowed forward, encasing him in her multiple limbs, beak pressed against blue lips.
