Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing nor its characters. They belong to their creators/publishers whoever they may be. I'm too lazy to look that information up myself at the moment. I am not making any profit from this. The song "Perfect" is by Alanis Morrisette and is the inspiration for this story. The lyrics can be found all over the internet, so I figured I could use them here as long as I give them their due credit.
Perfect

~.....~ lyrics
~Sometimes in never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love~
Young Heero is in a mobile suit pilot training seat. He had eradicated seven out of the ten targets that he had aimed for. He looks up to Dr. J hoping for some recognition, some sign that he did well. All he got was a stern look that said, "You need to do better than that."
~Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face~
Dr. J is scolding Heero, disappointed that he made another slight mistake. Heero scowls at Dr. J and the doctor slaps him.
~Be a good boy
Try a little harder now
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder~
Heero has taken it upon himself to train more vigorously on his own time, trying for perfection, trying to please Dr. J.
~How long before you screw it up
And how many times do I have to tell you to hurry up~
Heero is finally able to hit all the targets, but his reaction time is still too slow; had it been a real battle, he could have gotten himself killed.
~With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet~
Dr. J is sitting at his desk hovering over his work. Little Heero is trying to get his attention, hoping that Dr. J might play with him. Dr. J ignores him until he can no longer take it and yells at the boy to shut up.
~Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder now
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud~
Heero is progressing along splendidly except for one thing, the emotions he displayed while piloting; those emotions have no place on a soldier's face, in a soldier's heart.
~I'll live for you
I'll make you what I never was~
Flashback to Dr. J's college years where his colleagues and professors mock him and his outrageous ideas. He is nothing but a joke in the scientific field.
~If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him, compared to her~
Flashforward to the start of Operation Meteor. Dr. J is working vigorously at his plans for the operation and the perfect mobile suit. This is his chance to prove to the world what a great scientist he is. A small smile creeps across his face as he thinks of the boy he's already chosen as pilot.
~I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I've blown
What's the problem... why are you crying~
Little Heero has just gotten through a hard day of training. He can no longer handle the stress as Dr. J yells at him once again. Heero starts crying.
~Be a good boy
Push a little farther now~
Heero has completed his training and is sent to earth on his first mission.
~That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy~
It's Heero's first battle with Zechs. Though they both put up a good fight, Heero just can't keep up with the Lightening Count's speed.
Heero has disappointed Dr. J. He has failed at the mission and attempts to kill himself, jumping off a cliff.
~We'll love you just the way you are
If you're perfect~
"I am the perfect soldier."
