Hella, y'all! This is my first fanfic – a Divergent story. It's just that….when I was in the shower, I thought – What if Tris survived in the Weapons Lab? And so I started typing. Also, please review. I had to change the storyline a bit to suit my story in this chapter (who am I kidding? I had change it a lot), but the story before this Prologue is the same. This chapter, you can say, is a bit like the conversation between Harry and Dumbledore in the Deathly Hallows after Voldemort kills Harry in the Forbidden Forest. Tris' mother talks to her and says it's her choice – whether she chooses to live or die.

Also the title - I've named it the Fourth City, because after the Bureau fiasco, Tris and Tobias (in this fanfic) will go and live in Chicago

I'm looking for a Beta…..so if any of the readers are Betas, please PM.

Hope you like reading it!

Prologue

Tris

In the Weapons Lab, Tris has survived the death serum. David has shot her. She activates the memory serum, and hallucinates that her mother is in the lab…..

The pain is unbearable. I realize that David shot me in the side of my abdomen. My mother, standing next to me, kneels and takes my head into her lap.

I whisper, "Am I ready?"

My mother smiles, a tear trailing down her cheek, "I'm not sure, Beatrice. You are teetering between life and death. It is you choice now. If you choose to live, I will leave you here – somebody will find you and you will be healed. But if you choose to die, then I'm here to take you with me."

My choice….live….or die…if I live I'll be with Tobias, Caleb and Christina….if I die I'll be with my parents and Will…..

I know what to do next.

I will not be a coward.

"No, Mom, I want to live. I am sorry," I croak, simply, without any explanation. I am sure she understands, because she smiles, nods and places a kiss on my forehead.

"I would have expected no less of you, Beatrice, my brave, brave girl. Just remember that whatever happens – I am proud of you and your choices."

Then she gently lays my head on the floor and walks away.

But a few seconds later, my vision becomes blurry and all my other senses are shutting off too. I try to reach out to my mother, and beg her not to go, but no sound comes out of my mouth.

And then everything goes black.

Yeah, I know, it's really short, but trust me, the next chapter will be six times longer (do the math). Anyway review, please! Did you like it? D'you think it will turn out okay?

I think I'll be updating the next chapter later today, or tomorrow.

Please review, I accept flames too! ~ Ari
