Title: Feline Grace
Author: JForward
Summary: Working title. Jeez, I don't know what to write. A strange disturbance on a distant planet and the Doctor suffering badly from a cats bite. Is it all connected? Blergh. 10wolf and Rose.
I do not own Doctor Who. Or that cool theme tune. Or David Tennant. Life is so unfair, isn't it?
Prologue: Gathering.
The smell of humans and sweat stung the large animal's nose. The fake trees surrounding it reeked of plastic and the water was the only remotely real thing in the enclosure. Huge, black pads pressed into the damp earth but it didn't shiver, a thick, black fur protecting him. Yes, it was a male. He stepped carefully, away from the cold wire, black damp nose twitching. Whiskers puckered in disdain as the great cat lowered its head and began to lap at the water, which had the foul taste of plastic in it too.
Emerald eyes glinted as it raised its head again, and turned, moving each paw with feline grace, delicate steps for such a huge animal. The great panther, almost double the size of a normal panther, glanced around itself. But this was not itself, this environment, this place. Sighing, the cat relaxed its haunches, and sat back, licking a paw while the long, thick tail twisted like a black snake. Then, without warning, the cat lifted his head and gave a cattish screech into the air. Startled viewers moved on, the glare of the cat through the wire disconcerting.
The area was emptied, only a few stragglers remaining to watch the extraordinary sight. Silently, on huge wings, a golden eagle swirled down, settling itself upon the fake tree and looking towards the great panther. The panther looked up at it, and the eagle looked back, with emotionless eyes, cold and fearless. The great, tearing talons were used to grip the branch.
"We must move soon" the voice was deep but quiet, emanating from the panther. The eagle bobbed its head in agreement, and opened it's killer beak to speak in a low, feminine voice. "Deenan, you can escape easily, as can us birds. The others will require help, and we must find an aide." Deenan stiffened, and the eagle landed directly in front of his nose, speaking almost silently so no human could hear them. "we must trust one human, deenan. Before they take us. The wolves could escape, but what about the 'hogs and the warties and the foxes?" Deenan sighed softly. "Rochelle, I'll do my best, but I do not know who we can trust." He raised a great paw and looked at the sharp talons. "The metal is amazingly weak. You and I can slice it easily, with out enlarged claws and our strength. If only the electricity was off" his eyes glinted. "And we need no human for that".
A/N: Yes, yes, in this animals talk. Don't go on about how stupid it is or anything because these can talk for a reason. Trust me. watches as crowd begins to thin throws cookies on floor please stay!
