"I never know what the future brings,

But I know you're here with me now

We'll make it through and I hope

You are the one I share my life with..."

If You're Not the One- Daniel Bedingfield

Ron and Hermione climbed a few more steps and collapsed onto the grass. They could see for miles, and if they looked down the hill, the Burrow was just visible among the trees. Hermione had spent many summer hours watching the Weasleys play Quidditch from this spot. She smiled at Ron. He grinned back.

It was all over. The losses, the heartbreak- there was time to recover. For now there was love, affection and appreciation. There was freedom that the younger generations had never known. Yes, the pain would come, but for now, there was peace.

Hermione placed the picnic basket next to Ron, and then whipped her wand out to spread the rug out. She smoothed it down, then took the basket and placed it in the middle. Ron sat up at the sound of rustling food wrappers and immediately got up and sat on the rug opposite Hermione. Hermione giggled and playfully hit his hand away from the basket. She handed him a roll, but he put down on his plate and lay down, looking up at the sky. Hermione understood. There were no words to describe how she felt, but she knew that they could both feel it. Hermione gave up sorting out lunch and copied Ron. They both lay there, not talking, because they had nothing to say- they knew they were thinking the same thoughts. Hermione held herself up on her elbow to move the picnic basket, which then allowed her to lie closer to Ron. Ron reached for her hand, which grasped him. He turned to face Hermione, moved his head forwards, and kissed her warm lips. It felt so simple, but so much more meaningful than any other kiss they had shared.

"I love you Hermione," murmured Ron, stroking her hair and twisting it rounds his finger.

"I love you too Ron," she replied, smiling and placing her hand on top of Ron's.

They knew the pain would come eventually, but everybody had each other, and they all had time.
