What If It's You?
The lights in the small dorm were off. Everyone was alseep except for him; he hadn't been able to sleep well for the past couple of days. He couldn't get them out of his mind. James and Lily were the talk of the whole school. He hated that. He wanted what they had.
Suddenly, an idea hit him. He slowly got up from his bed and went out into the main room. He slowly walked over to a small desk in the corner, careful not to make any noise. He sat down in the chair, waved his wand, and started a half-burnt candle to give him light. The drawer creaked open as he pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill. It was time he told her exactly how he felt.
I've got something to tell you that I just can't say.
So I'm writing it down in case maybe someday.
Our lives take the turn down a road we can't see right now.
I know you're happy and I'm happy for you
But since you found each other, I've been so confused
I believe there was one soul on this earth that was meant for mine
I was sent here to find...
He started writing furiously; his quill spilling of the words he'd been longing to say for so long. The words he would have said if it weren't for James. He was always the center of attention; something he longed to be. Sure, he was pretty well known about the school, but if it weren't for his stupid problem...
They had all been friends for a long time. They'd known each other practically their whole lives, and then Potter decides he wants to be more. They were so happy together, but maybe that wouldn't last long...
If I ever hold you, I'll never let go
But if I never do, how will I know?
He sighed after having read the letter over again. Could he really go through with this? I mean, they were his best friends. They still hung around, even after... But that seems so long ago...
He was supposed to feel happy for them, like everyone else. But for some reason, he felt a little resentment. And major guilt. His feelings were killing him. He was trapped like a lost soul, trying to find it's way home. What if he never loved anyone as much as he loved her? What if it's too late? What if...
Suddenly, the boy's room door creaked open. Someone was coming. He glanced down at his letter once more and then sighed. He reached up to his candle and set one edge of the parchment to it. Then, he threw the burning paper into the fire; forever lost except for in his mind.
"Lupin, are you alright? It's really late, what are you doing up?" James asked, walking over to his friend.
"I'm fine. Just setting some things straight." Lupin rose from the desk and stood next to James. That was it. He was officially happy for them.
James slapped his friend on the back and they both headed back to their beds for the night.

Author Notes: This story is very short, I know. But, it's midnight here, and I'm really tired. I still hope you like it though!
