Inspired by Vocaloid's "Circus Monster" and "Dark Wood Circus"
A pink-haired woman peeked from behind the red curtains, her blue eyes taking in the rambunctious crowd gathered within the tent.
"Luka."
Her long tresses twirled as she spun around to face Kaito, the Minstrel of the Dark Wood Circus.
"What is it?"
"Don't let your excitement get ahead of you." he said softly, his normally warm blue eyes were empty and melancholy, "Don't forget."
The bright gleam in her eyes faded at his words. He was right. Tonight was a special night. She couldn't afford to mess up. If she did... She would become one of them.
The Circus Monsters.
Musicians that had become deformed at the Ringmaster's whim.
They were all once such lively and beautiful musicians. But now with their change... Once breathtaking voices had becoming haunting and distorted. Elegant figures had become grotesque.
Their minds lost for eternity.
She had known one too. A close friend of her's.
Hatsune Miku. A young, bright diva who had once been Kaito's lover.
The teal-haired girl had only stuttered once in during one of these performances before she was taken away by the Ringmaster. She returned blinded, tainted, and with legs of a goat's instead of her unblemished pale legs. Her psyche was just barely hanging on the one time Luka had been able to see her. The woman had cried for her as she clutched onto the younger's deathly pale hand.
She disappeared not long after.
Hopefully, she had found peace wherever she had gone.
The songstress mentally pushed her depressing thoughts away, she couldn't afford any distractions, and reached out to clasp onto her companion's hand in hopes of comfort. Her hand cold in his equally cold one. She gave him a small, nervous smile as usual.
"I'll do my best."
